Curriculum at Xi'an Liangjiatan International School

Welcome to XLIS, Xi’an’s first IB International School since 2003.

XLIS is a three programme IB school focusing on PYP, MYP, and DP framework.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

XLIS is an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) school. This programme offers our school a philosophy and curriculum framework which aims to combine the best research and practice from a range of national and international systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience provided by a global chain of international schools.

What is the Primary Years Programme?

The IB Primary Years Programme, for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is an international, transdisciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child, not just in the classroom but also through other means of learning. The PYP focuses on the total growth of the developing child encompassing social, physical, emotional, and cultural needs in addition to academic welfare.

The PYP encourages the development of the traits described in the IB learner profile. It describes the qualities IB students develop and display as they learn.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

XLIS is an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) School. The MYP offers a philosophy and a curriculum framework to meet the needs of 11-year-old to 16-year-old students. It aims to combine the best research and practice from a range of national systems and the knowledge and experiences of international schools.

It recognises the unique developmental characteristics of early adolescence, which is marked by significant physical, intellectual, emotional, and moral growth and change. In recognition of this, the MYP seeks to facilitate learning experiences that are authentic, holistic, relevant, engaging, and build a healthy sense of self. International-mindedness is woven through the fabric of the programme’s framework and is expressed through the IB learner profile.

The framework provides flexibility for all teachers at XLIS allowing teachers to develop teaching programmes that are responsive to the needs of students who are making sense of a rapidly changing world and to make authentic connections between their learning and local, regional, and international contexts.
