XLIS Extra Curricular Activities
Each ECA that we offer is structured to provide experiences designed to enrich the intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth of your child. Opportunities for learning and enrichment are prepared in accordance with your child’s grade level and interests in mind.

Bridge
Serve as a bridge between home and school, offering enrichment rather than simple instruction.

Growth
Promote the balanced growth of each child by providing developmentally appropriate activities.

Skills
Enhance play skills, increase social competence, and cooperative thought and action.

Provide appropriate peer contact according to each student’s wants and needs.
XLIS Extra Curricular Activities
XLIS provides all students the opportunity to join our ECA programs with over 20 ECA subjects to choose from, there is something for everyone.
Each ECA that is offered at XLIS is structured to enrich the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional growth of all students. Our ECA program is designed to give all students opportunities to learn something more than traditional classroom learning and to give students something your child will enjoy with their friends or with students across other grades.
Extra Curricular Activitives

PYP Basketball
ECA for primary basketball team (not open to anymore students, team has been picked by trials). Develop basketball skills and compete against other schools.

02.
Secondary Volleyball Club
A club to learn the skills of volleyball and develop a joy for playing the game. This club will lay the foundation for the development of a volleyball team in September 2021.

03.
Soccer Team
Become a Blue Dragon and represent XLIS as a member of the school’s soccer team in matches against other international schools in Xi’an.

04.
Ultimate Frisbee
Introduction to a recreational sport that involved with various sporting skills.

05.
PYP Baseball
Opportunity for primary students to learn and play baseball in a relaxed environment.

06.
Swimming
For those confident and not so confident in the pool, this activity is packed full of games and activities to play in the pool.

Fitness Club
CAS Students will lead group and with teachers, they will exercise together.

Running Club
CAS Students will lead the group and with teachers, they will exercise together.

Table Tennis (Primary)
Learn table tennis from a former New Zealand national team member and play matches against other international schools in Xi’an.

10.
Table Tennis (Secondary)
Play table tennis under the supervision of a former New Zealand national team member and play matches against other international schools in Xi’an.

Tennis
Develop students’ interest in tennis. Have a clear understanding of tennis. Cultivate excellent competitive sports spirit. Select and train the team members who can represent the school.

Golf
Children will have the opportunity to learn the skill and Technique of golf and practice with professional instruction.

13.
Football
Via practice of skills and promotion of technical ability, we want the players to know and master some techniques of football, and build interests of football, and eventually achieve the goal of physically healthy. The training sessions include: Running with the ball, ball passing & controlling, individual attacking, multiple players attacking, individual defense, and matches of 3v3, 4v4, etc.

Swimming
The study of swimming is not only to cultivate students’ interest in swimming, but to achieve the purpose of lifelong physical exercise, Through learning and mastering the standard movements of freestyle technique, the students can establish the correct concept of movement technique as soon as possible and improving swimming skills. Students will acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills by the combined learning in relation to drowning prevention and swimming skills.

Tennis
Tennis is a game that uses a racket to separate the net against the ball. Tennis has the characteristics of generous movement, entertainment, appreciation, and strong fitness. It can cultivate speed, strength, endurance, agility and other physical qualities, judgments, and reactions.

Table Tennis
In table tennis, primary and lower MYP students will learn: Ball control, Back hand, Forehand, Serving, Rallying, and ITTF official rules In ping pong upper MYP and DP students will learn: Serving, Forehand top spin, Backhand top spin and ITTF official rules. All students will have the opportunity to play in matches later in semester one.

17.
Golf
For new learners, we use Snagolf from America (including clubs and teaching systems) to instruct kids. The main features of Snagolf are safe, easy and interesting, which helps kids get known the basic tips of golf. After Snagolf, we teach kids to play real golf in golf classroom.

Wrestling
To develop basic wrestling skills, learn various moves/techniques and build a wrestling community focused on individual and group success.

19.
Early Year Movement & Dance
Children will get to explore making rhythms and beats with their bodies and hand instruments. They will learn basic dance movements that will help them to develop their gross motor skills, body coordination and rhythm while having lots of fun!

20.
XLIS Primary Choir
Audition required ensemble group which represents XLIS for school events and other performance.

21.
Arts & Craft
The Arts & Crafts Club filled with FUN projects, we will be exploring a variety of art mediums through exciting hands-on art making experiences- creative painting techniques, sculptures and mixed media collages.

22.
Visual & Critical Studies
Students will have the opportunities to create personal work each class session, spend time on one or several pieces, or develop a body of work (a series).

Drama
Student will learn basic acting skills including singing and dancing. Students will have a chance to perform at Summer Musical Gala on May.

24.
Ballet Dance
We will follow the Royal Academy of Dance course to give students the very basic dance practice and prepare the program for the events.

25.
Pop Dance
Pop dance is a chance for students to learn choreographed movements with popular music. They will develop body coordination, rhythm and team-work while having fun!

26.
Drum
This class will help students learn and understand musical Notes, rhythm pattern and drum scores. Also, studying drum can help students balance their bodies.

27.
Creative Cooking
Students will be able to tell what healthy and balanced food choices they can make everyday. In the meanwhile, students will be able to use a few kitchen tools and explain how the tools made our life easier.

28.
PYP Basic Chinese Characters (Mondays & Fridays)
By systematically learning Pinyin, students are able to master and use Pinyin as a language tool to achieve autonomous literacy and independent reading. According to the psychological cognitive level of children and the combination of graphics teaching, cultivate children’s reading ability and interest, diverge children’s thinking and independent creativity, increase literacy, to achieve the “early reading” of students.

PYP Chinese Reading (Mondays & Fridays)
We select articles according to the theme series and arrange them scientifically and reasonably. In the thematic unit and the guide reading of the classics, we set up a short guide before each unit, the purpose is to arouse students’ reading expectations.

PYP Chinese Writing (Mondays & Fridays)
Creative writing course aims to stimulate students’ imagination, cultivate their ability of observation and thinking, and express themselves.

PYP Mandarin for Non-native Speakers (Mondays & Fridays)
We will help our students consolidate vocabulary, improve literacy, and cover all language learning discipline, oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy.

Chinese - Upper Primary to Middle School (Mondays and Wednesdays)
MYP literature appreciation and creative writing class focuses on improving students’ abilities of thinking skills, communication skills, and students will explore the concepts of aesthetic and creation of literature.

Mandarin Debate
Students will learn basic strategies of debate, how to write debate script and how to organize debate structure.

Chinese Public Speaking
Help children inspire their language talents, stimulate their language application ability, cultivate their interest in expression, establish their self-confidence in public expression.

Chinese for Non-Chinese Students
This mandarin class is for non-Chinese background learner. We will focus on learning mandarin language acquisition.

Korean Daily Conversation for Non-Korean Students
We will watch a short Korean drama and pick one daily conversation. We practice through the role play.

eSports
eSports introduces students to the world of competitive, organized video gaming, and takes video gaming to another level, governed by its own strict set of rules and guidelines. Parent approval required.

Lego Robot
Students can improve practical ability and logical thinking ability through this ECA.

3D Printing
The purpose of 3D printing intelligent programming community is to realize ideas into concrete objects through software and hardware and to materialize abstract concepts through innovative teaching models such as visualization.

Model Airplane
Studying in our club, the model aircraft you can make: Hand thrown airplanes Rubber band airplanes Electric free-flying airplanes Line controlled airplanes Radio-controlled airplanes and so on.

Video Producer
In this ECA, students will learn basic techniques in producing videos, which they can utilize in their assignments or school projects.

Chinese Math 1

Chinese Math 2 (Mondays & Fridays)
以北师大教材为载体,融合优秀教育教学资源呈现中 数学课堂。

Chinese Math 3 (in English)
Teaching Chinese Math (Shanghai Academy Text book) in English.

STEM Club
The ECA is a project-based learning program in STEM area.

MUN
Model United Nations is an event organized specifically for young people by official and civil organizations around the world.

Read to Succes
Students will do activities where they will be able to identify and manipulate individual sounds to form words.

English Club
This is not an English class. English club is a place to practice your English in a fun, safe environment. This is a student-led ECA and will include a variety of activities and discussions on the topics that interest the students most.
