Welcome to the XLIS PTA website! My name is Mr Hulbert Zhang, a current XLIS parent and the XLIS PTA President for 2021–2023. I’m excited that you’ve taken the opportunity to learn more about the first IB International School in northwest China! You’ve come to the right place if you’re new to the PTA or want to see what’s happening.

I want to thank XLIS for its close collaboration between parents and the school over the past years. The XLIS PTA has and always will have a seat at the table when crucial decisions are made that will affect our children. Every month, we will have the PTA Core Members meeting, where we get together with the school’s Senior Leadership Team to discuss all the issues and concerns raised by parents and make joint decisions. Those elected to represent the family’s needs and make sound decisions for our students’ developmental growth should value education and see that each child is unique and deserves every opportunity to achieve their potential.

The PTA plays an influential role in bridging family and school life. The PTA not only makes suggestions on school and family education but also makes an active effort to improve cross-cultural understanding and communication between international families and students. Furthermore, the PTA promotes the mutual collaboration between XLIS family members and the school, cultivating global citizens with an international perspective and Chinese sentiment, and contributing to the development of international education in Shaanxi Province and Xi’an.

The XLIS Parent Teacher Association has had many opportunities to serve the school community in various ways over the past few years. Since the PTA’s heartbeat is to positively impact the school, school staff members often present new ideas to the PTA to receive thoughtful feedback that helps shape policies and proposals. We offer a multicultural sounding board for parents and students because XLIS is made up of people from many different countries.

During the school year, XLIS holds monthly PTA meetings. These meetings allow the school and parents to discuss education, school operations, and event planning. Teachers may talk to the parent community about new reading programs or student discipline issues. Experts from the community may talk about building better relationships with students or sharing important information about school reform initiatives. Parents may raise concerns about homework, school buses, the ECA program or propose school changes. The PTA can also provide a powerful mediating function, providing a neutral forum for resolving conflicts that sometimes occur in schools around controversial issues.
