This series allows our community to connect with our alumni and learn the great work they are doing around the globe. The XLIS mission to enable confident, open-minded global citizens is evident in their lives.
Years you have studied at XLIS?
I studied at XLIS from 2019 to 2025.
What brought your family to XLIS/Xi’an?
My father moved from Fujian to Xi’an for work several years ago, and later brought the rest of our family here. As for why I came to XLIS, I didn’t perform well in the local middle school entrance exam under the traditional system. My family felt I was not well‑suited to the exam‑oriented approach and its pressures. Instead, they believed a more holistic, inquiry-based learning environment would better suit me. With my father’s support, I came to XLIS.
Where are you located now?
After graduating from the XLIS DP program, I moved to Hong Kong.
What are you doing now?
I am currently studying Chinese Language and Literature at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, where I also serve as an Activity Assistant for the university’s Board Game and Chess Society.
What’s your fondest memory of XLIS?
Looking back at my DP and MYP life after graduation, I don’t think any part stands out as more precious than others. Of course, there were difficult and challenging moments, but aside from those, the patience and understanding of my teachers, as well as the mutual support among classmates, are the most memorable and meaningful parts of my XLIS experience.
Please share a story on how you are still making a difference today.
The value of my XLIS education has become increasingly evident during university. I used to not understand how I, as an IB student, was different from students from other educational systems. Now I find that I have more imagination and initiative than many of my peers when it comes to expressing ideas and organizing events. As Activity Assistant for the Board Game and Chess Society, I have already led five events. I find it very meaningful to teach others the games I love and bring together people with similar interests. I hope that when I become Vice President of the society in my second year, I can maintain the boundless enthusiasm for extracurricular activities that XLIS instilled in me and bring even more happiness to others.
