This series allows our community to connect with our alumni and learn the great work they are doing around the globe. The XLIS mission to enable confident, open-minded global citizens is evident in their lives.
Years you have studied at XLIS?
I studied at XLIS from 2018 to 2022, starting in MYP4.
What brought your family to XLIS/Xi’an?
My family moved to Xi’an for my dad’s job and XLIS was one of the international schools that offered the IB programme which seemed appealing to me!
Where are you located now?
I’m actually in the US right now for my study abroad programme. Normally I’m based in London, UK, for uni, but I’ll just be here for this semester.
What are you doing now?
Like I mentioned, I’m on a study abroad programme this semester at UNC, where I’m working on my final year research project. I’ve been studying pharmacy at UCL for the past 3 years and, fingers crossed, I’ll be graduating next year!
What’s your fondest memory of XLIS?
I’d definitely say the WWW (week without walls). It was such a great chance to bond with my classmates in a completely new environment whilst also giving back to the community. I especially loved our trip to Cambodia, where we volunteered at a local school and explored the country. Amazing weather, good food, and of course the best company! It really showed me what it’s like to travel and work with friends at a younger age. I also really enjoyed all the school events throughout the year (there were so many I can’t even name them all). Some of my favourites were Sports day, dynasty activities, and holiday events like Halloween!
Please share a story on how you are still making a difference today.
As a soon-to-be pharmacist, I’ve been making small contributions to the healthcare system here in the UK through placements and internships. I’ve worked in pharmacies, large hospitals, and local GPs, meeting patients of all ages, backgrounds, and health conditions. Every interaction has shown me how even small acts, like giving simple advice or ensuring someone is taking their medication safely, can make a real difference in their life. I’m now studying and working hard to become a healthcare professional who prioritises people’s well-being and can make an even bigger impact on the world!
