The Xi’an Liangjiatan International School’s 2024 Summer Camp reached a successful conclusion in July. This year’s summer camp was held from June 24th to June 29th with the theme of “Fairy Tale Wonderland”, followed by the STEAM Summer Camp from July 8th to July 13th with the theme of “Sustainable Energy”. The diversified themed camps not only provide students with more choices, but also create valuable opportunities for in-depth learning.
First session: Fairy Tale Wonderland
During the “Fairy Tale Wonderland” themed summer camp, we have arranged a variety of courses for the students, covering interesting areas such as language, sports and STEM. In addition, students can take part in swimming lessons, movie nights and reading in the library.
According to the cognitive theories of renowned psychologist Piaget, adolescence is the prime time for children’s imaginative development. Under the guidance of Ms. Julia, the camp coordinator, the students’ interest was piqued through vivid picture book explanations of the six-stage structure of a novel or a complete story, and in the closing ceremony, the students presented “Fairy Tale Books”, which were created independently by individuals. In the STEM class taught by Ms. Maggie, students used tin foil to make food shapes or used simple motors and boards to make amusement park equipment. Through the combination of handicrafts and simple motors, the students’ hands-on ability and creativity were stimulated. Mr. Chris combined the exciting games with the songs from Disney animated movies in the PE class to motivate the students to challenge themselves. The students’ courage and determination to overcome difficulties were enhanced in a fun and educational atmosphere.
Second session: Sustainable Energy
In the second summer camp, we have developed a variety of STEAM classes based on the theme of “Sustainable Energy”, which combines science, technology, engineering, art and math to develop students’ comprehensive quality and innovative ability through interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
In an immersive camp experience, camp coordinator Mr. Kelvin led students in an in-depth exploration of the principles, technologies, and innovations that are driving the renewable energy revolution, from solar and wind to hydroelectric power to reveal the complexities of these sustainable energy sources and their transformative impact on our world. In Visual Arts class, Ms. Jasmine encouraged the students to use their imagination and combine craft materials to build their own city of the future. In language class, the students listened to Mr. Ahmed’s illustrated stories to learn about the sources of pollution on the planet and how they can take action to protect the earth’s environment. During the summer camp, in addition to the rich and interesting classes in the school, the teachers also took the students out of the school to the Shaanxi Nature Museum for an interesting field trip.
During the summer camp, through the well-designed courses and activities, the students broadened their horizons, increased their knowledge, and improved their self-confidence and teamwork ability. At the same time, they also experienced the communal living in the dormitory, learned positive communication and self-care skills, made many new friends and left unforgettable summer memories. After the summer camp, we received a lot of positive feedback from parents and students. We look forward to meeting you again in next year’s summer camp to witness the growth and progress of the students!
