Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2nd semester of the academic year 2023-2024. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family. We are now in for a very busy semester. There will be many events including the finals for the MYP5 and the DP2 students. I am attaching an extract of the calendar for your perusal.
As we move into the new semester, please, have a chat with your children and set goals for the next semester. Questions that you could ask your child can be:
- Are you satisfied with your academic performance?
- Did you complete all the work that was assigned to you, such as classwork and homework?
- Did you meet all the deadlines?
- Have you met your teachers to discuss your progress?
- If you are not satisfied with your performance, what do you plan to do differently this semester?
We must hold our students accountable for their academic performance and ask them the above tough questions. The faculty and staff want to see our students succeed, but our students need to realize that they too are a part of the puzzle of success. It is also important that our students take full advantage of the academic programs and extracurricular opportunities offered at XLIS.
I have also received feedback from those parents who completed the survey sent by Dr. Liu. I am now in the process of dropping in classes and observing both students and teachers at work. These drop-in sessions are followed by feedback to the teacher about the strengths and areas for improvement in any of their lessons.
Our DP2 students are sitting for their mocks this week. This is a very important time for them as they can understand how to use their time productively. The scores and the feedback they receive from their teachers will enable them to improve in their finals.
Several workshops have been organized for the parents the month of March.
On the 5th of March, there will be a workshop on stress management for the M5 and DP parents. Mr. Shameek will discuss ways parents can help student alleviate their stress during exam time.
On the 14th March, there will be a workshop for M4 parents regarding the Personal Project. This year we have decided to start the students on their PP early and give them time to produce excellent work. We have nominated M. Sunil -our Design teacher PP facilitator and he will lead the workshop together with our MYP Coordinator-Ms. Emma Yang.
On the 22nd of March, Ms. Emma, our MYP Coordinator will hold a meeting with M5 parents to talk about the e-assessments and the expectations from students. We will also address ways in which parents can support students at home.
I will send reminders about these workshops as the term unfolds.
