Dear Parents,
Hope this email finds you well. Over the weekend, we hosted more than five hundred educators on our campus as part of the ACAMIS Spring Leadership conference. It was an opportunity for our students in the choir and band to showcase their talents to a broader audience. Some of our high school students did a brilliant job in the panel discussions and supported the school logistically. You can find more on this on our We-Chat channel. Thanks to each and every member in the community, XLIS strives and continues to demonstrate the beauty of an increasingly accountable and connected community.
We are officially in the examination period for the MYP5 and DP2 grades. Our students are preparing to take on this final chapter of this grade. All the best to them.
On April 30th, the Secondary team would lead a workshop on ‘Assessment & reporting and managing exam stress’. This will be led by the Secondary Principal and the MYP coordinator. The workshop will consider forms of assessments, how they are reported and used for learning. The team will talk about strategies that can reduce examination stress and how learning can be made more effective in that stage.
Classes for the 2025-2026 year -The students’ social-emotional well-being is very important to us at XLIS. There are many factors that we consider when making the classes for the next academic year. We must ensure that the classes are well balanced with boys/girls, language proficiency, nationalities, behaviours, etc. Now is the time our teachers and I will look at current classes and make decisions about which students learn well together and which students may be better in separate classes next year.
I am happy to receive feedback from parents about students your child gets along well with and would like to be in a class with. You may send this to me before May 23rd, as after this time the classes will be sorted and changes will not be possible. If you could let me know 2-3 students your child would like to be in a class with, I will try to ensure that they will be with at least 1.
Please do not send requests for specific teachers, as I am not able to assign students to teachers based on parent requests. I am only seeking feedback on peer relationships and believe that having a friend in the class is important for children to feel happy and build responsible relationships at school.
Week without walls- Please note that due to the Dragon Boat Festival weekend (May 31st– June 1st) and the expected heavy tourist crowds at many of our Week Without Walls locations, we have adjusted the dates for the Week Without Walls. The new dates will be June 2nd – June 6th (Monday to Friday).
We value your continued support in making the children feel supported and accountable inside and outside of school. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any queries.
Regards,
Shameek Ghosh
Secondary Principal
