Dear Parents,
Welcome to the last letter in May. This has been and is still the busiest month in the secondary department. I would like to thank all of you for your continuous support in making sure the students take their academics and other activities seriously.
DP2 students completed their finals last week and it is time to celebrate their achievements. The DP Graduation will be held on Friday 24th May from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.
There will be a celebratory dinner in honour of our graduates at the Ritz-Carlton from 6 pm. The parents of the graduates are cordially invited to the event in the morning as well as the dinner. You will receive invitations for this event soon.
M5 students completed their final exams on Friday and this week they are busy at work. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents who have offered placements to our students. I hope they will make the best of this unique opportunity.M5 teachers will do spot checks at their place of work this week to ensure our students are safe and enjoying their work.
Week Without Walls: The Secondary students will head for their trips from the 27th of May till the end of the week. A big thank you to M. Hakim and the team of teachers who are working tirelessly to make this week a success. On Wednesday 22nd May, there will be an information session for all parents starting from 9:00 am in the Blue Dragon Theatre. We hope parents can make it as all of us need to be on the same page when it comes to the rules and regulations of such long trips. Please confirm with your child whether you are attending. Thank you.
M5 Celebration: As is the tradition, we celebrate our M5 students every year. This year the event will be on the 6th of June. We will send more details later and all parents are invited to celebrate the success of their students.
Classes of 2024-2025 year: As you might know every year, we look at the homeroom classes and using feedback from subject teachers and homeroom teachers we will review the homeroom. After the WWW, I will ask students to give me feedback on who they can work with (at least 2 classmates) and we will review their requests. I feel that in Secondary students can have a voice in who they can work with as they are more mature. However, they will also have to understand that they may get one friend but not all the friends they choose. We want our students to be happy and their well-being is our priority, so we will try and listen to their voices as much as possible.
Apart from these main events, the teaching and learning are still going on for our younger students: M4 students have their exams this week- we aim to build more rigour in the High School to ensure that they can meet the challenges of the last year’s in MYP.
I look forward to seeing the parents at the meeting on Wednesday and the DP2 parents on Friday. As usual, I am always open to all suggestions and I am ready to address any queries. Contact me at jaimala.quinlan@xalis.com
Sincerely,
Jaimala Quinlan
