Dear Secondary Families,
As we move into October, we are approaching two important dates in our Secondary School calendar that provide valuable opportunities for students, teachers and families to reflect on learning and consider the next steps in each student’s journey.
October 16 – Reports Released
On Friday, October 16, Secondary Reports will be released through ManageBac.
I encourage parents and students to take some time to read through the feedback carefully. A report card is much more than a collection of grades; it provides an opportunity to recognise successes, understand areas for growth, and reflect on the skills and dispositions that support learning.
As you read your child’s report, I encourage you to celebrate their achievements and the progress they have made, while also talking together about their areas for development. Look particularly at the feedback connected to the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, as these provide important insights into how students are developing as learners, not simply what they have achieved in individual subjects.
Perhaps most importantly, use the report as a starting point for a conversation with your child:
What are you proud of?
What have you learned about yourself as a learner?
What would you like to improve or develop next?
October 21 – Parent Teacher Conferences
Five days later, on Wednesday, October 21, we will hold our Parent Teacher Conferences (PTCs) in the Small Gym.
These conferences provide an important opportunity to continue the conversations that begin with the reports. Meeting with teachers allows parents to ask questions, gain further insight into their child’s learning and progress, and work together with teachers to identify meaningful next steps.
Teachers will share their SignUp.com registration links with families and will also post these through ManageBac, with parents notified when the information is available. As in previous years, we generally schedule Middle School conferences in the morning and High School conferences in the afternoon.
I encourage families to make the most of both opportunities. The report gives us a valuable snapshot of where students are in their learning, while the PTC provides the opportunity to turn that information into a conversation about where they are heading next.
Our strongest learning communities are built through genuine partnership between students, teachers and families. Thank you for continuing to work alongside us to support our students to reflect, grow and thrive.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Ms. Gill
