Dear Parents,
Good morning! I hope this email finds you well! We are hopping into Spring now, with the Spring Equinox upon us. For our Persian friends, tomorrow is the beginning of Nowruz, their New Year! So Happy Spring and Happy New Year to our XLIS community! I love watching Xi’an come to life with the insects, birds and flowers returning to the city-scape!
Our second semester is now well underway, and we have continued to keep true to our vision of leading education through innovation and a student-centered, community-driven approach. Such innovations this year have been our International Day of Peace celebration, our recent whole school Maker/ Science Fair, the fabulous ACAMIS Jr. Swim Competition last weekend (a very big thank you to all who contributed!), and coming up next week – our XLIS Sports Day!
In today’s message I will be sharing some important dress code policy information for our new families and as a reminder for those of you who have been with us for some time. In addition, I would like to give some information about our XLIS Sports Day event which is on Friday, March 29th.
Dress Code
Please find our XLIS Dress Code policy attached to this email. We are a school that requires our students to wear their school uniform daily. This includes the school shirt and navy blue pants or shorts/skirt. There are several sweater and sweatshirt options to keep students warm as well. Please also note that children are not to dye their hair or have colourful painted nails. You may refer to the attachment for more details.
Sports Day
Over the years, we have had a track-and-field event for our primary students. Each year we have tried to improve this day for our students and their families. We are excited that this year, we are innovating again! We hope to raise the school spirit of our students, create friendly competition, and involve our parents and the wider community. Our Primary and Secondary divisions had separate events in the past years, but this year, we will be joining together for a full day of sport and competition that transcends the two divisions and brings the entire school community together.
The Sports Day will begin at 8:30 am and run until 3:30 pm. All of our students have been divided into 4 colour teams – red, green, purple, and yellow. Returning students will keep their same colour from last year and our new students have been assigned their colour team. Each student is encouraged to wear their team colour for the events on Friday, March 29th. Parents are invited to the event, and are welcome to represent their child’s team by also wearing their team colour! More information for parents will be sent through out PR, but we hope you can all make it for this fun, community-driven event!
That is all for this week. Please email me at any time with how things are going or questions you may have about your child’s school life.
Sincerely,
Marly Song
Primary Principal
