Dear Parents,
Happy new year! I want to welcome you back after our Chinese New Year holidays. I hope you have had some restful family reunion time. The next couple of months are going to be full of events as we move into an important stretch of the year that includes lots of academic milestones, sports and other activities. We are here to support your child in each and every step.
Digital detox week-As we prepare for Mental Health Week 2026 (March 23-27), Dr. Liu has proposed a school-wide Digital Detox Week, an intentional pause to recharge, connect authentically, and lighten the mental load for both our students and ourselves. During that week, our community would consciously take steps to reduce device use. This may range from teachers planning lessons that are more grounded on hands on device free activities and homework that does not require the use of devices. Students should not bring devices to school during that week.
ECAs-Our ECAs will begin on March 12th. This is a fantastic time for students to get involved, and XLIS offers a range of opportunities for those interested in trying out for school athletic teams or auditioning for musical ensembles. Some selection processes have already begun, and students have been informed directly by coaches and ensemble leaders about how to get involved. If you have any questions about tryouts or auditions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Director of Athletics and Activities, Mr. Zach Dwyer (zach.dwyer@xalis.com). We’re happy to help your child explore their interests and talents!
M5 Mock examinations-Our M5 mock examinations will begin on March 5th. We understand that exams can be a source of stress, but mock exams are a valuable opportunity for students to become familiar with the formal exam experience in a supportive environment. Attendance is essential, as this full set of mocks helps students build confidence and prepare effectively. Please encourage and support your child during this time. The exam schedule has already been shared by our MYP Coordinator, Ms. Emma Yang on Managebac. Should you have any questions or need support, feel free to contact her directly (emma.yang@xalis.com). We’re here to help!
Parent workshops-We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Parent Workshop on March 4th, from 9:00–10:30 AM in the Parent Collaboration Room. This session will be led by our Student Support Team, including our school counselors and Special Educational Needs educators. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how we can work together to support student well-being and success. A separate message with further details will be shared by our PR team. We hope to see you there!
Dress Code-Just a friendly reminder that students are expected to wear their school uniform each day, in line with our dress code policy. Our online uniform store is well-stocked, and orders can be placed easily. If you’re experiencing any issues with obtaining the uniform, please reach out to PR, and we’ll do our best to assist. Hair coloring and nail extensions are not permitted. If your child has colored their hair, this should be restored to the natural colour within this week. We thank you for your cooperation on this.
We truly value our partnership with you and remain committed to building a strong, supportive school community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if there’s anything we can do to support you or your child.
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and successful year ahead!
Shameek
