Another significant milestone this year is celebrating Literacy and Culture Week schoolwide. We had a successful ‘’Book Fair’’ for three days organized by our librarian, Mr. Jessie. The collaboration between primary, secondary, and library made the event meaningful and successful. It was delightful to see the different classroom activities, such as making a newspaper dressed in black and white, bookmarkers, and read-aloud! The celebration ended with a book character fashion show. Literacy skills empower students to be independent and become effective communicators, which are critical to success. The event was a great reminder of the importance of literacy in our everyday lives.
Literacy Week In Secondary
Quote for the week:
“Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realise his or her full potential.” – Kofi Annan
This quote was the introduction to the whole week. However, the Middle school students under the guidance of Mr. Michael and Mr. Kyle took part in the first Spelling Bee competition at XLIS. This was a very good way to welcome the literacy week.

Teachers and students have been very busy addressing Literacy in all their subjects- the main message was that literacy does not only refer to language classes but in all subjects. Math addressed literacy by doing group work, Visual Arts students defined the main elements in Arts through visuals, Chinese Language & Literature classes represented the novel studies and their perspectives through visuals.
