Parent Teacher Conference
After receiving the progress report this is an opportunity for parents to schedule a time with your child’s teachers to discuss progress in the first unit. I advise you to prepare some questions to ask teachers on how you can partner to help the child achieve the very best. We are so fortunate at XLIS to have such engaged parents, who we love to partner with. I encourage you to reach out to all your child’s teachers to schedule interviews, not only homeroom teachers.

This workshop will equip parents with the knowledge and tools to support their children’s English language learning journey. We’ll explore how EAL is used and implemented in the classroom, understand the WIDA testing system, and discover practical strategies to foster English language development at home. You’ll gain valuable insights on how to create a supportive learning environment and learn about helpful materials that can enhance your child’s progress. Join us to empower your child’s success in their English language acquisition!

Primary Literacy and Culture Week
Literacy and Culture Week is one of the main events at XLIS. In the primary division, our goal is to promote and develop a love of reading that will benefit our students for a lifetime. Some of the highlights will include: a school-wide book fair located in front of the library, a storyteller from the USA buddy reading across grade levels, the book character parade, and various activities in different classes. The Literacy and Culture Week is also a time to explore and celebrate the stories that come from around the world and within our XLIS community, giving our students the opportunity to learn more about where their peers and teachers come from.

Co-led by Mr. Sky Du, Mr. Kelvin Tian and Mr. Kyle Jooste, the workshop aims to engage parents in understanding how inquiry is at the heart of teaching in the IB. Wednesday, 16th October
University Fair
On the 16th of October, XLIS will hold a university guidance fair from major US universities. This comes in good time as a follow up to Mr. Shawn Felton’s visit to XLIS on September 14th. Students now have an idea of what good universities look for in any applicant. We will have representatives from universities across US, France, UK, HongKong, Japan and Switzerland participating in this fair. This should allow students to consider their strengths, areas of growth and ambitions to have engaging conversations with university representatives.

Wednesday, 23rd October
Secondary 3 way conference
The three way conferences are opportunities for a student to demonstrate progress and achievement in a common forum with parents and teachers. This discussion follows up from the progress reports that would be released on October 18. The time and specifics for middle and high school will be communicated later on by the homeroom teachers closer to the event. We look forward to our parents come into school, and have engaging conversations with teachers as partners in guiding our students better.
