Dear XLIS Primary Community,
Good morning!
I hope this email finds you well as we begin a new month at XLIS! I was absent from school last week as I accompanied our M4 students on their Week Without Walls trip to Jeju Island in South Korea. I loved that I got to know many more students at our school while experiencing Jeju Island and learning about their sustainable vision for the future. I was so impressed by the open-minded qualities of our students and their principled behavior while we were gone.
I am very happy to be back with the PYP students. I missed them a lot! December is one of my favourite months, as the campus is decorated for the holidays, and joy is being spread throughout the hallways. There are only 3 short weeks left until we break for Christmas!
There are a few events to note in your calendars this month:
December 4th – 6th is the Chang’an Cup High School Basketball Tournament
We encourage parents and families to come to XLIS on Saturday to cheer on our Blue Dragons’ girls’ and boys’ teams!
– Due to the Chang’an Cup, ECA’s are cancelled on December 4th and there are not any after school sports practices on December 5th
Thursday, December 11th – End of our first semester ECA program. This means dismissal will return to 3:25 every day of the week. The second semester ECA’s do not start again until March 12th, 2026.
Saturday, December 13th – XLIS Christmas Concert and Market. Due to our growing community, the concert will be separated into Primary and Secondary concerts. The Primary concert will take place from 8:30 am – 10:00 am. The Secondary concert will take place from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. A registration email has been sent by PR to all community members to reserve tickets. Please be sure to register to attend!
Flu Season
As is the norm with winter months, it seems that the season for influenza is in full effect throughout China. This is a gentle reminder to pay close attention to your children’s health during this time. If they inform you of fatigue, body aches or feeling uncomfortable, it is no harm to keep them home for the day for observation. If your child experiences fever and other symptoms, please keep them home until they are feeling better (the recommendation by our Health Center is 48 hours fever-free). In this way, the children are given the rest time they need to fully recover while keeping the virus from spreading to other children or teachers at the school.
Child Protection Reminders
At XLIS we value the participation of our community members in school activities and events. Recently, parents have been invited to school for a variety of reasons, such as participation in Literacy Week activities, taking part in unit celebrations in classrooms, and helping to decorate classes for the holidays. I would like to take this time to remind all parents about two very important Child Protection items in our policy:
1. Please always use the bathrooms that are specifically for adults. Do not go into a bathroom that is marked for use by children at any time. The signs on the door are clearly marked for adult or student use.
2. When on campus during class activities or if outside during playtime, parents are not to take photos or videos of their children or any other students. Photographs of the school environment are acceptable. There are times our parents are excited to be here and may forget. If this happens and an XLIS staff member reminds you, please kindly delete the footage you have taken and put your device away. The safety and protection of our students is our #1 priority.
Thank you all for your participation in our community events! I look forward to welcoming you on December 13th for our Christmas concert and market!
Have a lovely day!
Sincerely,
Marly Song
