Dear Parents,
Good morning and a very Happy Year of the Snake to you all! We are very excited for what this year has in store for all of us at XLIS! I hope that you and your family had a lovely holiday and that your children are excited to come back to school!
Today I would like to highlight some upcoming events at XLIS this month:
New Students
At XLIS we are always working on our admissions and welcoming new families to our community. Today I am very excited that 6 more new students have joined us in our primary school. As an inclusive school, we strive to ensure all children feel a sense of belonging and are supported in their learning. When new students arrive at our school, we ensure they have a buddy who helps them adjust to their new school life and make friends. The students at XLIS consistently demonstrate they are caring, open-minded individuals as they welcome these new students and help them to settle in.
100 Days of School
This Thursday, February 13th, is our 100th Day of School! At home you can do some fun activities with your child around the number 100 to celebrate this important day. Some suggestions are to collect 100 items and complete counting activities such as grouping them into 10’s, skip counting with them, or using them to create a picture. You could ask them questions such as – If you could ask for 100 of something, what would it be and why? Or – draw a picture of what you think ______ will look like in 100 years.
Parent Workshop
Next week on Wednesday, February 19th, Ms. Nicola Crossfield (PYP Coordinator) and Mr. Benjamin Wright (P5 Homeroom teacher) will lead a parent workshop starting at 8:30 am! Join us for an informative workshop focused on the online tools and platforms used in the PYP at XLIS to support student learning and enhance communication. We will explore ManageBac, IXL, Raz Kids and SeeSaw, highlighting their features and benefits. This workshop is intended for new to XLIS parents and is a great chance to familiarize yourself with these essential tools and ask questions. Please keep an eye out for the registration link that is shared by our PR team.
Sports Season 3
I love sports, and it has been incredible to watch our sports program at XLIS grow over the years. This week our Sports Season 2 will wrap up with the ACAMIS Green Division High School Basketball tournament, hosted at XLIS! This tournament will be the first time XLIS has participated and our primary students will demonstrate their school spirit by watching a game or two!
To start Season 3, this week, our U11 (P5 and P6) and U9 (P3 and P4) basketball teams will finish their tryouts and the rosters will be made. Other sports for primary at this time are badminton, swimming and track and field. Upcoming competitions are badminton on March 1st at Dehong and our 3 basketball teams (U9 and U11) on March 15th, also at Dehong.
Go Blue Dragons!
The new ECA information for semester two was shared through our PR email on Sunday and you can find the courses in your XLIS WeChat app.
That is all for now! Please continue to reach out and let me know how your child is doing at XLIS and ask me any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Marly Song
