Dear Parents,
I hope this email finds you well! We are now in our 3rd week of the second semester! The students and the teachers are getting back into the routine of school-life, and our ECA program starts up again today!
Parents
The 4th school-wide goal at XLIS this year is to build and strengthen the connection between our parents and school, to help us achieve our “community-driven approach” to education. This semester we will continue to offer several opportunities for parents to come to the school and participate in a wide variety of events.
These are just some that are coming up. Of course, you are welcome to schedule a meeting with any of your children’s teachers, myself, or Mr. Lalor and Dr. Liu at any time. We place a high value on our parent and student voices.
Staff
At XLIS we believe in investing in the knowledge and expertise of our teachers and staff. It is important for our team to have the opportunity to learn from one another, share best practices, and to continually look for ways to improve. Last Friday the primary team had Professional Development on inquiry teaching and learning. This method of learning is a cornerstone of the Primary Years Programme and requires constant upskilling and sharing of strategies and ideas with one another. We have purposefully built more time into our schedule, including early release for students and late release for staff, where all staff members of the school are engaged in developing their profession further.
Students
Of course, everything we do is to improve the education we are able to provide our students, your children. They are the reason we are constantly seeking ways to support student learning. Our student assemblies are an excellent opportunity for our students to show their learning to the community. On March 14th, we will also have a Science/Maker Fair where they will get to showcase many of the amazing projects they have completed. More details on that event will come soon.
All in all, we are very happy that our community is growing and that our connections are getting stronger. I love receiving emails from parents with highlights of their children’s experience at our school and also with suggestions for the future. Please never hesitate to reach out!
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Marly Song
