Xi’an Liangjiatan International School is an amazing place, and the reasons why our school is special can be found in the diversity of our students and staff and the cultures they represent. One of the ways XLIS explores different cultures is through food. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be challenging for students and staff who are busy. At XLIS we strive to support our community with healthy and delicious food choices every day, but once a month our school explores different food cultures from around the world.
XLIS values the role food has, not only lunch but all food in general. Food has a direct impact on study, work culture, healthy bodies, and minds. As food plays a big part in everyone’s daily life, we’ve investigated different countries cuisine and incorporated it into our lunches not only to promote wellbeing but to provide students with different lunch options, which exposes them to healthy and tasty food that is outside the normal scope of their daily lives, and encourage students to discuss within the school and their family about their own culture and ethnic background.
Our schools’ resource department working together with our chef and catering team, once a month focus on one culture or country to give our school an opportunity to taste some delicious and flavoursome foods, and we don’t stop there, we also decorate our cafeteria and provide music to create a more inviting eating atmosphere based on the country or culture the food represents.
September:
In September we learned about Italy and Italian food and provided an inviting buffet of delectable Italian foods such as pasta, pizza, Italian meats, cheeses, salads, and cakes.
October:
More recently, at the end of October we explored the cuisine of Thailand and Thai food, providing mouth-watering food choices such as Thai curry, rice, noodles, chicken, spring rolls, and the tasteful tom yum soup.
November:
In November we learned about India and Indian food and provided an inviting buffet of delectable Indian foods such as Indian curry rice, chapatis and some cakes.
We sincerely hope our school community enjoy these cultural lunches, and we thank our community for your continuous support. We look forward to serving you and your child more delicious foods each month.
