Dear parents,
To all my friends in the community, I would like to share my annual yearbook article with you. I am blessed to be completing my eleventh year in this brilliant school. I do not take this great honor for granted and greatly appreciate each and every one of our students, staff and parents. I hope you find this evident by the way I strive to support any of our community who reach out to me. I always love to hear from you, whether it be at the school gate each morning, by email or WeChat. Please do keep in touch and let me know how I can support your family. Let me tell you a little of what our team has been up to this year.
One of my main responsibilities is to further our school mission through our annual action plan. Our mission is to be a not-for-profit school that enables confident, open-minded global citizens through life-long learning and a sense of community. We have been working on the eight areas in the Gannt chart below over the past seven years. This is our strategic plan, however, each of our divisions further breaks these goals down, along with specific department goals in our annual action plans.
I work with the different school leaders to set goals for their departments and then meet with them three times a year to monitor progress. This keeps us all accountable and working towards our mission. An update is shared with all staff at each point during the year.
I would like to summarize some of our achievements below:
- We have developed the three high school male and three female teams required to join a national ACAMIS sports division
- We created accurate language acquisition assessments to place our students in the correct phases
- We furthered our culture of data analysis by introducing MAP assessment from P3 to M4
- We will host the annual ACAMIS Spring Leadership Conference in April and increase the number of workshops offered in our second IB Asia Pacific event in June
- We successfully launched the XHIS/XLIS Alumni program, which has given us tangible evidence of our mission accomplishment.
As a school, we are always looking to improve, and next academic year, one of the things we will be focusing on is enhancing our culture of care. But more to come on that next year. I cannot stress the fact that our school could not be where it is today without the leadership of Dr. Liu and the support of you, our community. Let us strive together to achieve our vision to lead education through innovation and a student-centered, community-driven approach.
Thankfully,
Brian Lalor
