The XLIS sports day was held on March 31 at our beautiful campus to help promote the love of sports and living a balanced lifestyle. The event’s purpose is to allow all students to participate in a day full of fun and healthy competition among each other. We aim to provide students with a platform to display their confidence, open-mindedness and to give students a sense of community.
For ECE to P1, students and parents had fun together as they completed six activities set up expressly for them. These activities included an obstacle course, a three-legged race, a tennis ball and spoon race, a potato sack race, catch and throw and a beach ball run. P2-P6 participated in a set of athletic events. These events included the 100-meter sprint, 400/800-meter-long distance, 4×100 meter relay, long jump, high jump, and shotput. We even included a 4×100-meter parent vs teacher relay race.
Our secondary school students took to the pitch soon after and delighted their peers and onlookers with their passionate display of athletic skills. As the day went on, the unity between our students became more and more apparent as they cheered each other on despite being members of different teams.
During the secondary school medal ceremony at the end of the day, students cheered loudly for each winner. Nonetheless, it was clear to all in attendance that every student went home a winner after this year’s Sports Day!
This year, XLIS has created several events that have joined our primary and secondary schools together. At the sports day event, secondary students volunteered to help with the running of events and booths, strengthening the bond between our students from many grade levels. The vertical composition of teams gave students the chance to band together with peers they may never have worked with before. It was also another event where our parents came in full force, ready to lend a hand and participate to ensure it was a fun-filled day.
We are excited to build on this year’s activities and see our sports day grow each year! Go Dragons!!
