Discover XLIS’ Unique Residential Program

Hello everyone! We are Roy and Tammy, representatives of the XLIS resident-student community!

01. Program Introduction

 

The XLIS residential program was created to model a safe and comfortable ‘home away from home’ for students aged 12 to 18. We offer two options for our resident students: a weekly boarding option for students who reside in Xi’an, as well as full boarding option for students needing to spend their weekends at the campus.

 

Each student apartment can accommodate from 2 to 4 students and is equipped with modern and attractive furniture. High quality bedding, study tables, ensuite bathrooms, and large closets are carefully designed to ensure our students are comfortable and safe. On the first floor of the dormitory, a study room, an activity room, a cafeteria and a laundry room are available for our boarding students to conduct their daily activities while enhancing their resident experience at XLIS.

 

The dormitory management team is composed of both foreign and local resident teachers responsible for the safety and well-being of the boarding students.  In addition, our students benefit from knowledge-sharing workshops, social and emotional counseling, and on-site health care.  Moreover, an enticing weekly menu created under the supervision of professional nutritionists from ADEN CO., is revised weekly and often includes dishes suggested by the students themselves. Finally, 24 security and cleaning services are also provided by ADEN company which hails from France.

 

The residential program at XLIS regularly organizes community-building and wellness-based activities such as cooking classes, swimming classes, movie nights, and cultural celebrations. These events are meant to enrich the students’ residential experience and provide opportunities of them to socialize in a safe environment. Academic support and single subject tutors are available upon request and tailored to the individual needs of each boarding student. Furthermore, field trips including visits to museums, art exhibitions, and scenic views of the city on weekends are also available for full boarding students. Finally, the dormitory director and the coordinator are in constant communication with the students’ academic principals and teachers thus encouraging all residential students to plan diligently to meet their academic goals, participate in social service opportunities, and develop their personal interests. The XLIS Residential Program strives to create a vibrant community of multicultural learners and student leaders.

 

02. Residential Staff

 

Mr. Alex Rambaud

Vice Principal /Dormitory Director

Post-graduate Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Roehampton, London.

Alex Rambaud currently serves as XLIS’ Vice Principal and Dormitory Director, has been with XLIS for over 9 years. He has held numerous academic and administrative positions at XLIS and is a passionate advocate for student wellness, empathy, and community service. He holds a Post-graduate Degree in Educational Leadership from University of Roehampton, London, a CERTESOL from Trinity College, London, three Cambridge TKT certificates, and five IB certifications covering all three programmes. He is a certified first-aid responder and holds and ECIS child protection certification. Alex grew up travelling the world thus becoming fluent in 4 languages, developing his cultural intelligence, and acquiring a deep understanding of the challenges that international students face as they move from one country to the next.

 

Mrs. Lu Liu

Master of Educational Leadership and Management at Flinders University

Dormitory Coordinator, Mrs. Lu Liu is an experienced educator and school administrator, specializing in international education. She possesses a Master of Educational Leadership and Management from Flinders University, Australia. Mrs. Lu also holds a Cambridge University TKT, an American TESOL certification, and is a certified Chinese teacher by the Headquarters of the Confucius Institute. Ms. Lu has experience as a principal assistant for the secondary school at XLIS, which allowed her to build a strong rapport with the teachers and students, while developing a deep understanding of the programmes (MYP-DP) curricular requirements. Mrs. Lu is skilled at organizing school events and possesses excellent organizational and communication competences.
