Dear Members of the Xi’an Liangjiatan International School (XLIS) Community,
Spring is still in full bloom, yet the gentle breath of summer is already stirring. I send you my warmest greetings as I share a few updates from our community.
First, I’d like to share some good news. XLIS was honored to be selected to host the 2027 China ICAC conference, welcoming top university admissions officers and school counselors from around the world. This is not just an honor – it’s a real bridge to global opportunities for our students, raising our school’s profile while giving every college-bound student deeper connection and insight.
Secondly, our student representatives and school leaders visited the campuses of Westlake University, Duke Kunshan, NYU Shanghai, and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University two weeks ago. A trip to Korean universities is also in the works. For our IB DP students, here’s something encouraging: scores above 30 points can open doors to direct second-year entry or dual degrees at some partner institutions. And to our middle schoolers – go ahead and explore those university summer camps. They’re not just fun adventures; they’re seeds of motivation, and sometimes even early scholarships.
I also want to say how proud we are of the Class of 2026. Our graduates have earned offers from Cambridge, UC Berkeley, Notre Dame, and seven from the University of Hong Kong. Their chosen paths range from Mathematics and Law to International Relations, Economics & Finance, Environmental Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence Engineering. Together, they’ve received about 700,000 USD in scholarships. A full article will be posted on our school WeChat soon – please keep an eye out and join us in cheering for them.
And our largest-ever DP2 cohort will say goodbye in two heartfelt chapters. On May 29, the morning ceremony starts at 8:30 a.m. in the Blue Dragon Theater, followed by a graduate parade across our beautiful campus – all PTA members are warmly welcome to line the route with flowers and applause. That evening, from 5:30 p.m., we’ll gather at the nearby Shilla Monogram Hotel for a prom dinner.
Another area we’ve been focusing on is electronic devices. We’ve heard PTA concerns about device use on school buses – how it distracts peers and breaks focus. Our current policy lets bus TAs remind but not confiscate. So for next school year, we’re introducing some balanced measures: a digital detox week each semester, a 50% cut in digital homework for middle school students, clearer boundaries during school hours (8:00 a.m.–3:30/4:30 p.m.), and parent workshops on healthy device habits at home. More details to come.
Before I finish, let me leave you with a few dates to mark and, I hope, to inspire together.
— On April 29, please come to the PYP Exhibition.
— On May 11, we look forward to seeing you at the Student-Led Conference and the PYP Art Exhibition – a lovely chance to sit beside your child and watch them take charge of learning.
— On May 16, please join us for the Summer Fair.
— On May 21, please come and enjoy our ECA Showcase.
— May 29, we warmly welcome all graduates’ families and PTA members to the DP Graduation Ceremonies – a farewell that is also a new beginning for the Class of 2026.
Wishing you a Labour Day holiday filled with relaxation and joy.
Yours sincerely,
Lily Liu
