XLIS Class of 2026 Graduate Sylvia Zhang Hosts Book Signing Event
On the morning of June 19, Sylvia Zhang, a graduate of XLIS Class of 2026, returned to campus to host a book signing session for her book Friends of Time. She personally presented copies of her thoughtfully crafted book to students from P3 to P6, creating a heartwarming exchange of knowledge between generations.
The inspiration for Friends of Time grew out of Sylvia’s rewarding volunteer experience at the Time Museum of the National Time Service Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences. While introducing young visitors to the history of timekeeping and humanity’s understanding of time, she experienced firsthand the power and appeal of sharing knowledge. Inspired by these interactions, she set out to make the science of time accessible to more children through a picture book. Drawing on her observations at the museum and insights gained from reading The Science Museum of Time, Sylvia transforms abstract concepts of time into vivid, engaging stories and illustrations, making sophisticated scientific ideas approachable and meaningful for young readers.
More than a reflection of Sylvia’s own spirit of scientific inquiry, Friends of Time serves as a bridge connecting children to the world of science. Through her words and illustrations, she inspires scientific curiosity in younger generations, allowing the wonder of time to resonate throughout the campus community.
During the event, Sylvia carefully signed the flyleaf of each copy, chatting warmly with younger students who came to receive the books and posing for photos to commemorate the special occasion.
This signing and book donation event was far more than a simple handover of books, it represented the passing on of an inspiring spirit. Committed to fostering lifelong learning and a strong sense of community, XLIS strives to nurture confident global citizens with an international outlook. Sylvia’s growth journey stands as a vivid embodiment of the school’s educational philosophy and the values it seeks to instill in every student.
