Whole School PD (Early Release)

Buses will leave before last period for teachers to take part in professional development. Some of the workshops being offered are:

Saturday, 13th April

The Second Silk Road Classical Music Competition

 

XLIS is proud to announce the Second Silk Road Classical Music Competition! This prestigious, yearly event is designed to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their performing abilities in front of a panel of judges that are specialists in the field of the Performing Arts.

 

This unique event will also feature a Winner’s Recital and performances from famous musicians and professors alike and will take place at XLIS’ Blue Dragon Theater on Saturday April 13th, 2023! This event is a whole-school event and the exact schedule will be designed in accordance with the number of participants and performances.

The monthly PTA core meeting of April will be held on Tuesday, April 16th, and we will notify all PTA members by email later on.

Friday Assemblies

Each Friday one of our homeroom classes has the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning! This is a student-led event that is supported by the teachers. The parents of the class that is presenting will be invited to join the audience.

Primary Parent Workshop (for PYP6 Parents)

 

IB Learner Attributes led by Ms. Julia Fan, our P6C Homeroom Teacher.

IB Learner Profile Attributes, the heart and soul of the PYP curriculum. The attributes of the learner profile represent a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that encompass intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth. The development and demonstration of these attributes are foundational to students becoming internationally minded, active and caring community members who respect themselves, others and the world around them. In this workshop, parents will have the opportunities to unpack the attributes by doing some engaging activities and look at some strategies for home support.

AprilPYP6 Exhibition

In their final year in the Primary, students are expected to conduct their Exhibition to demonstrate and apply what they learned throughout their time in the PYP. The Exhibition is one of the highlights in P6 that allow students various opportunities to explore real-life issues they are interested in. Based on their investigation, the students will share with the community the information and what action they can take to solve the problem. The Exhibition brings the community together as we celebrate the achievements of our P6 students. We hope you can join us in this special day!

Primary Parent Workshop (for PYP5 Parents)

Learning in the Makerspace – Sparking Creativity in STEM led by Ms. Maggie Qiu the Makerspace teacher.Our Makerspace has been a vibrant hub of exploration and education, where students embark on an exciting journey of inquiry. Through hands-on activities, they delve deeply into various subjects. If parents are eager to understand how to nurture or reinforce their children’s interests in STEM – encompassing science, technology, engineering, and math – they are invited to join our workshop. Here, we will present cases and learning experiences from our school Makerspace, giving parents a glimpse into how their children are engaging with STEM at school. This may inspire them to envision new possibilities for STEM learning at home. Additionally, we will share resources that can support children’s STEM learning in the comfort of their own homes.

Project-Based learning is an important part of education nowadays. Here at XLIS we have been encouraging and guiding our young students to engage in creating projects for the past years. Ms. Bella has been guiding the students of M1-M2 in the Meta-Projects-Ms. Bella will be able to explain to you all what project-based learning is about and how our students complete this important aspect of their IB learning.
