1. PTA Core Member Meeting

During this PTA meeting, we mainly went through agendas as below:

· Key Concepts

· The 2023 XLIS Summer Fair

· MYP5 Work Experience

· Barter Trade

· School Uniform 

 

2. Open Day

On April 22nd, we had our Lower PYP Open Day. We were delighted to welcome little ones and parents from outside to come and experience the learning and life at XLIS. This is an amazing morning of inquiry with interactive demo classes, campus tour, curriculum introduction, etc. designed to help prospective families better understand XLIS and IB Courses. In following May, we will keep open up to interested families!

 

3. Whole School PD Day 

Students had early release this month. They left on school busses at 2:30. During this time all XLIS staff took part in three professional development session.

· Mr. Parker our head of logistics prepared all staff for an upcoming earthquake drill. This is the latest in a series of developments we are putting in place to improve school safety.

· Mr. Koran shared his experiences at the East Asian Regional Council of Schools teachers conference. It is our hope that some of our teachers will present at this conference in the future.

· For the final 40 minutes teachers had the opportunity to choose from seven different workshops ranging from The Role of the DP Examiner to Differentiation. 

 

4. XLIS Teachers vs Students eSports Event

XLIS Students and teachers battled it out in an epic showdown of digital domination on Saturday, 29th April. Our talented ECA student gamers had been honing their skills for weeks, strategizing and practicing for the ultimate face-off against our esteemed teachers. And the teachers, with their years of experience, gave the students a run for their money. The games played included some of the most popular titles in the world of esports, from action-packed first-person shooters to pulse-pounding strategy games.

 

 

Primary School Events

 

1. Primary Parent Talk (for PYP4 – PYP6 Parent)

This was the last Parent Talk session in this year. Till now, we’ve completed all four Parent Talk sessions in this year which pertained all 15 grades parents. We are grateful to see  our excellent parents actively exploring and sharing their perspectives towards international education pholosiphy and witness the growingly tighter connections between school and parents.

 

2. PYP Exhibition

On Friday, April 28th, all P6 students had their Exhibition Day from 8:30 – 3:00 pm. In the PYP, all students are expected to do the Exhibition in their final year. It is an opportunity for P6 students to showcase what they have learned throughout their time in the PYP. The students demonstrated the learner profile attributes, approaches to learning and created their unit of inquiry based on their topic of interest. The Exhibition was a celebration of learning in which students presented to the community about their research and the action they had taken.

Secondary School Events

 

1. EE Introduction to MYP 5 Parents

Mr. Shameek our DP Coordinator took parents through the process of Extended Essay to MYP 5 parents. This was an important component of the core of the DP programme and we would like parents to have a clear idea of the demands of this long-term paper and be able to support the students accordingly.

 

2. Secondary Parent Workshop (for MYP3 & MYP4 Parents)

Ms. Kate Yu, our University Counselor gave parents a talk on what university applications look like, how to choose universities and how to counsel and prepare the students for this important task.

 

3. Secondary Parent Workshop (for MYP1 & MYP2 Parents)

How to communicate and nurture kids in puberty? What are the ways to educate kids to develop self-management skills? This workshop was addressed by the social emotional counselor and Secondary Principal. We discussed ways we could ensure the well-being of our students.
