On August 15th, 2022, students and staff returned to Xi’an Liangjiatan International School for a brand new 2022-2023 school year! With this new beginning, not only do we welcome new international students from different countries joining our family, but we are also fortunate to have a number of experienced experts in international education field working with us to develop XLIS into a first-class IB World School. At this point of a new semester, may all students continue to be challenged, to explore and to achieve even more. Let’s take a look at what’s coming up at our school in August.
Whole School Events
01. Staff Orientation Week – Monday, 8th August – Friday, 12th August
During the week before school started our teachers returned and began to build community. Staff took a look at our schoolwide goals and planned how they would implement them in their departments. Staff also looked at the XLIS professional standards for teachers. Staff were introduced to our systems and learned as much as possible about how XLIS works. Our principals Ms. Marly and Mrs. Quinlan led a number of sessions around what we consider to be quality instruction as did our curriculum coordinators.
02. Fire Drill – Thursday, 25th August
The purpose of a school fire drill is to allow staff and students to familiarize themselves with the fire evacuation procedures, and to reinforce fire evacuation routes and practices. One of the aims of a fire drill is to have the proper actions be an automatic response whenever the schools fire alarm sounds, and that all students and staff safely evacuate the building in an orderly and calm manner.
03. Dormitory Fire Drill – Tuesday,30th August
The purpose of a dormitory fire drill is to allow staff and students who live in the dormitory to familiarize themselves with the appropriate fire evacuation procedures, and to reinforce fire evacuation routes and practices. One of the aims of a fire drill is to have the proper actions be an automatic response whenever the dormitory fire alarm sounds, and that all students and staff safely evacuate the dormitory building in an orderly and calm manner.
Primary School Events
01. Meet with Primary Principal
Monday, 29th August – Tuesday, 30th August
Thursday, 1st September – Friday, 2nd September
The first ‘Meet with Primary Principal’ of the year are spread out across the week with each day being specific to year levels. August 29th is for ECEA and ECEB parents who will learn about the Early Years in the PYP and how we are inspired with the Reggio Emilia approach. On August 30th, the P1 and P2 parents may join us to learn about the transition their children are making from the play-based learning to the Primary Years Programme, especially with the focus on literacy learning. September 1st is an invitation for our P3 and P4 parents, who will be introduced to a more structured homework routine, building children’s self-management skills and strengthening their reading and writing skills. Finally, on September 2nd we encourage the P5 and P6 parents to come to learn about the shift from learning to read to reading to learn. These students are getting ready for the PYP exhibition and for their next journey in MYP. Of course, in all sessions, we value our parents input, experiences and hope they will ask lots of questions!
02. Meet the Teacher Night – Wednesday, 31st August
Parents are invited to campus from 4:30–5:30 where they will have the opportunity to meet the homeroom teacher, TA’s and other parents from the class.
