Deepening Silk Road Educational Exchanges, Writing a New Chapter of Collaborative Education
Education Delegations from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan Visit XLIS
On the morning of April 2, our school welcomed distinguished guests who traveled across mountains and seas — a delegation of 53 principals and teacher representatives from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. This exchange marks an important step in our school’s active response to the Belt and Road Education Cooperation Initiative and the full implementation of provincial, municipal, and district education directives. It aims to promote the mutual exchange of quality adolescent education and the sharing of international educational resources, adding a brilliant new chapter to the international education exchanges in the ancient capital of Chang’an.
During the event, Chinese and international educators engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as adolescent quality education, mental health support, teacher professional development, and innovative English teaching methods. As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, the profound historical and cultural heritage of Shaanxi and Chang’an has laid an irreplaceable foundation for international education cooperation.
Mr. Zach Dwyer, the Director of Athletics & Activities at XLIS, mentioned in his opening speech that Xi’an is the perfect place for this forum because it represents the bridging between China and the outside world. Chang’an, the district where XLIS is located, is also the ancient name for Xi’an used when the city was the capital of the Tang Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty was a golden age in Chinese history when the Silk Road was at its peak. Goods and ideas were traveling were traveling from Xi’an, through Central Asia, to Europe, and back to China. With this back drop, the forum represents another opportunity to exchange educational ideas. Delegates have the chance to introduce new ideas to XLIS, as well as take new learnings from the experience in Xi’an back to their countries of origin.
The year 2026 is a critical year for Shaanxi Province as it deepens comprehensive education reform and accelerates the opening up of its education sector. Provincial education directives clearly call for deeper integration into the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of high-level international exchange platforms. The visiting delegation spoke highly of our school’s educational practices, and the two sides reached preliminary cooperation intentions in areas such as teacher training, joint curriculum development, and student exchange programs.
Leveraging Shaanxi’s strategic advantages as a highland for Belt and Road education cooperation, as well as Xi’an’s cultural identity as the “City of Tang Poetry,” our school will take this exchange as an opportunity to deeply integrate the Silk Road spirit into its educational practices. Looking ahead, our school will continue to harness its geographical and cultural strengths, build bridges for Silk Road educational cooperation, promote the sharing of educational resources and mutual learning between Chinese and international teachers and students, and contribute even more to the connectivity of education under the Belt and Road Initiative.
