Diploma Programme: Curriculum Mapping
We are delighted to share these curriculum maps with our community. They provide a clear overview of the scope and sequence for each DP subject, enabling families to better support their students’ journeys.
The IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) is a rigorous, two-year pre-university curriculum designed to foster intellectual, personal, emotional, and social growth. As a structured programme with detailed subject guides for each discipline, it emphasizes depth of knowledge, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary connections, much like a comprehensive blueprint that guides students toward academic excellence and global citizenship. The International Baccalaureate Organization, in its Standards and Practices (2020), underscores the need for schools to maintain a coherent curriculum. Standard 0401-01 emphasizes that “the school plans and implements a coherent curriculum that organizes learning and teaching within and across the years of its IB programme(s) (0401-01).”
The XLIS IB DP team undertook a meticulous process to develop detailed curriculum maps for each subject, drawing on the IB’s comprehensive subject guides to analyze content and ensure a seamless progression of learning. By mapping academic standards across the two years of IB DP, we have created a robust framework that integrates subjects with the DP Core for holistic student achievement and intrinsic development of IB Learner Profile. This effort also aligns with the WASC standard to ensure “student understanding of standards-based curriculum and schoolwide learner outcomes” (Focus on Learning, 2020, B1.5).

Diploma Programme (DP)
The DP is widely recognised as the best possible preparation for study at university, building research skills, encouraging independent learning, and promoting personal responsibility.
Apart from the main subjects, the school also offers interesting CAS opportunities for our students. Our DP students are also independent in the community service and the activities they undertake for CAS. The highlight of their CAS activities is the Week Without Walls when they take their service to other areas within China and to other neighboring countries like Cambodia, Indonesia.
The success of our programme would not be possible without the dedication of our teachers who work tirelessly to ensure that the students get the guidance and feedback they require to be successful in their studies. All our Diploma Teachers are highly experienced teachers who have had a lot of exposure to students in different countries.
Since the implementation of the Diploma Programme the success rate of our students has been high and the average score of our students match the world average.
