Whole School Events
1.Start of Semester 2 – Monday, 6th February
According to the school calendar, the second semester is scheduled to begin on February 6, 2023 (Monday). Please check the school emails regularly for any relevant notice.
2. PTA Core Member Meeting – Tuesday, 14th February
The first monthly PTA core meeting of the second semester will be held on Tuesday, February 14th, and we will notify all PTA members by email later on.
3. Fire Drill – Wednesday, 15th February
The purpose of a school fire drill is to allow staff and students to familiarize themselves with the fire evacuation procedures, and to reinforce fire evacuation routes and practices. One of the aims of a fire drill is to have the proper actions be an automatic response whenever the schools fire alarm sounds, and that all students and staff safely evacuate the building in an orderly and calm manner.
4. Start of ECAs – Tuesday, 21st February
XLIS proudly announces the start of its exciting ECAs on February 21st, 2023! The ECA booklet and registration code will be sent to you by email. Please contact our Head of ECAs, Mr. Lee Li, at xlis.eca@xalis.com if you have any questions about the program.
Primary School Events
1. Assemblies – Fridays
Each Friday one of our homeroom classes has the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning! This is a student-led event that is supported by the teachers. The parents of the class that is presenting will be invited to join the audience.
2. Primary Parent Workshops
· PYP5: 9th, February 2023
This workshop is titled: Approaches to Learning (ATL’s) and Learner Profile Attributes. In this session, parents will learn what these terms mean and their importance to the PYP learner. These skills and attributes can be applied to all aspects of children’s lives, including at home and in the wider community.
· PYP4: 15th, February 2023
How to support children at home to learn how to solve their social issues at school. This workshop will be led by our school counselor, Ms. Michelle Taylor. She will introduce some strategies that can be taught and modeled by parents for their children.
· PYP6: 23rd, February 2023
This workshop is titled: Preparing students for MYP and understanding how the PYP is linked to the MYP and DP at XLIS. Ms. Lea from our secondary school and Ms. Maria from the primary school will introduce parents to the transition students go through when they change from one program to the next. Parents will learn how to support their children at home to prepare them for the new expectations they will encounter when they get to M1 and how these new skills will be applied throughout the rest of their middle and high school years.

Secondary School Events
1. Secondary Parent Talk
2. DP2 Mock Exams
Monday, 13th February – Tuesday, 21st February
The DP 2 students will sit for their mock exams during this week. The purpose of the mock exams is to give the students the practice to sit for timed papers in exam conditions. The exams will be mirrored on the finals- that is students will be able to sit for all the papers that they will have in the finals. Mr. Shameek Ghosh, our DP Coordinator is arranging for the conduct of these exams. The results from the Mocks will enable teachers to give valuable feedback to students.
3. Secondary Professional Development Day – Friday, 17th February
* No school day for students on Feb 17th.
The secondary teachers will spend the day reviewing and mapping the ATL skills across the years of MYP and DP. The aim of this workshop is to have a clear alignment of the ATL skills and to ensure that all skills are addressed by the time the students reach the Diploma programme. ATL skills do not only apply to the academic development of the students but they also help develop life skills that enable them to face challenges in life. By the end of the secondary education, all students should be equipped with skills that will ensure their smooth transition into tertiary education.
