2. Chang’an Cup
U19 International Basketball Tournament
On January 13th and 14th XLIS hosted the annual Chang’an Cup, a U19 basketball tournament for high school students in Xi’an. The tournament featured teams from 7 different schools in Xi’an that offer international high school programs. 7 teams competed for the Chang’an Cup in the boys’ division and 5 did the same in girls’ division. After two days of fierce competition, Xi ‘an Qujiang Kang Chiao International School won the champion of the boys’ division and Xi ‘an Hanova International School won the girls’ division.
3. The XLIS 2023 Spring Concert
The XLIS 2023 Spring Concert themed on “Welcoming the Year With a Message of Hope!” took place on Tuesday afternoon, January 17th, 2023. The program featured a combination of Christmas carols and other contemporary songs, and our students reminded us again of their outstanding performing skills and fearlessness in front of an audience. Each song brought our community members closer together during this memorable event.

2. Primary Parents’ Workshop
PYP3: 10th January 2023
Supporting students at home with their Mandarin learning. This workshop was led by our Mandarin teachers and supported both groups of parents – native speakers and non-native speakers.
PYP1: 16th January 2023
This workshop was led by Mr. Benjamin Wright, the Early Years Lead Teacher themed on “How to support students’ English learning at home”.
3. Primary Chinese New Year Celebration
The XLIS Primary School Mandarin Department conducted the aptly named “Happy Rabbit in Spring” Garden Party in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. This event aimed at observing the local New Year celebrations as an important vessel for the dissemination of Chinese culture and to cultivate our students’ understanding of Chinese traditions. During this activity, the primary students not only enjoyed exploring Chinese traditional culture and an art exhibition, but also chose their favorite Chinese traditional art forms by participating in traditional arts and crafts activities. The entire XLIS community contributed to the lively and festive ambiance of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations.
4. Report Conference
On January 18th all parents were invited to participate in our second set of Parent-Teacher conferences. Parents discussed with teachers about their children’s learning.

The Fifth XLIS Secondary Chinese Speech Contest and the Fourth ‘Chinese Festival’ student calligraphy exhibition
From preparation to presentation of the Chinese New Year celebrations in the Secondary School has always been following the target of student-centered and student-led learning. As the supporters, Chinese teachers encouraged and mobilized every student to participate in the creation, speech and performance of Chinese. The theme of the speech contest was ‘My youth’. International students from all over the world stood on the stage. They expressed their understanding of youth, academic learning and growth in front of the public. And students’ calligraphy works were also displayed outside of the black box. They experienced the charm of traditional Chinese culture together through calligraphy.
