Dear parents,
Last week we had a very successful 3-way conference and parents had the opportunity to talk to the teachers and have an idea of where their children are at this point of their learning journey. We thank you all for your support.
This month is going to be another busy one. This week we have Literacy and Culture Week. In Secondary, we launched this week with the first Spelling Bee Competition at XLIS. Students were very excited about this event and it turned out to be very successful. A big thank you to M. Michael Koran and Kyle Jooste for organising this event.
This week, in the classes teachers will lead the students to address literacy in their subjects. Many a time, there is a misconception about literacy being only relevant in language classes but this is an important skill that our students have to develop in their subject areas as well. We will post the activities that they undertake on our school website.
In the past months, there have been many concerns among parents about the success of their children in the IB programme and getting misleading information from outside sources does not help. Hence, we have organized a panel discussion between our Secondary teachers, the Counsellor, and the Coordinators on the following days. The meetings will be on the following days:
15th November: 9:00-10:00- M3 parents
22nd November: 8:30-9:30 am- M4 parents
29th November: 9:00-10:00 am- M5 parents.
We hope to see many parents at these sessions. We will address your questions that are relevant to your child’s year group and how you as parents can prepare for their future.
Our aim at XLIS is to cultivate a strong collaboration and partnership with our parents: we all have the same commitment in mind: to ensure that your child gets the best education which will prepare them for a bright future in this world that is becoming more and more challenging.
I welcome all your suggestions and I am always ready to welcome you for any suggestions or queries you might have. You can contact me at jaimala.quinlan@xalis.com.
Sincerely
Jaimala Quinlan
