Unit of Inquiry
Students will learn about the origins of money and examine and compare different types of money from around the world. Students will also learn about how people earn and spend money. They will learn about jobs people do to earn money and how people make plans to spend the money they earn wisely.

Language:
In reading, students will learn and practice strategies to use before, during and after reading that help them to demonstrate their comprehension of what they read and their thoughts and opinions. In writing, students will practice how to write with correct punctuation and how to use familiar words and phrases to express their ideas.
Math:
Students will learn about number sense and numeration. They will learn how to identify, compare and order numbers up to 200 and identify when they need to use those skills in their everyday life. In connection with our UOI they will learn about money and how to order, count and add and subject different coins and bills.
Summative Assessment:
Working in groups, students will be given a budget to plan a class party with.
The groups will decide how best to spend their budget to buy items for the party.
What can you do for your child at home:
Show your child different types of money.
Watch videos or read stories about the origins of money in your home country.
Bring your child to supermarket or shopping mall to buy something by him / herself.
Give your child an opportunity to earn money by doing household tasks/chores.
