Whole School Events
1. Staff Orientation Week
During the week before school started our teachers returned and began to build community. Staff took a look at our schoolwide goals and planned how they would implement them in their departments. Staff also looked at the XLIS professional standards for teachers. Staff were introduced to our systems and learned as much as possible about how XLIS works. Our principals Ms. Marly and Mrs. Quinlan led a number of sessions around what we consider to be quality instruction as did our curriculum coordinators.
2. Fire Drill
The purpose of a school fire drill is allow staff and students to familiarize themselves with the fire evacuation procedures, and to reinforce fire evacuation routes and practices. One of the aims of a fire drill is to have the proper actions be an automatic response whenever the schools fire alarm sounds, and that all students and staff safely evacuate the building in an orderly and calm manner.
3. Dormitory Fire Drill
The purpose of a dormitory fire drill is allow staff and students to who live in the dormitory to familiarize themselves with the appropriate fire evacuation procedures, and to reinforce fire evacuation routes and practices. Parents were invited to campus from 4:30–5:30 where they had the opportunity to meet the homeroom teacher, TA’s and other parents from the class. The teachers introduced themselves, the curriculum, the expectations of the students and parents, and the important policies we have in place. This was one of the events we had that helped us develop our community together.

All meetings were interactive and were led by the Secondary Principal and the relevant Coordinators and for ManageBac Mr. Randy Welch. All parents were requested to bring their devices for these meetings as we navigated ManageBac together.
2. Meet the Teacher Night
During this meeting, the Secondary Homeroom teachers introduced themselves and gave the parents a brief overview of how the year was going to unfold. They also gave the parents the list of all the subject teachers and their contact. Parents were then invited to have a chat with the subject teachers.
