Whole School Events

 

1. End of ECAs -Thursday, 15th December

Please be kindly reminded that Thursday the 15th of December 2022, marks the end of the first semester of our Extra Curricular Activities (ECA). From then onward, buses will depart the school at regular times on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A new and engaging ECA program for the second semester will begin in February, 2023. Please stay tuned for more information, classes, and sign-up information about this program. Thank you to all who supported us with this exciting endeavor!

 

2. PTA Core Member Meeting -Tuesday, 13th December

The fourth monthly PTA core meeting of the school year will be held on Tuesday, December 13th, and we will notify all PTA members by email later on.

 

3. Christmas Concert – Saturday, 17th December

It is with a great deal of enthusiasm that I’d like to announce our XLIS, 2022 Christmas Wonderland Show! This event will take place on Saturday December the 17th, 2022.

 

Theme: XLIS’ 2022 Christmas Wonderland (A blended performance featuring students of all year levels)

 

· 8:20AM: Teachers, Staff, PTA / supporting parents, guests and Students (performers) arrive.

· 9:00AM: Opening of Christmas Market

· 10:00AM: Christmas Show Starts

· 10:45AM: 15 Minute Intermission (The Christmas Market will be available to visitors)

· 11:00AM: Christmas Show Continues

· 11:30AM: Christmas Show Ends and the Christmas market remains open

· 12:00PM: Christmas Market closes. All visitors exit the building, clean-up begins.

4. Christmas Break & New Year’s Day Holiday

Saturday, 24th December – Sunday, 8th January

Our school’s Christmas Break and New Year’s Day Holiday is observed from the 24th December, 2022 to 8th January, 2023. We welcome our students and staff back to school, on Monday the 9th of January 2023!

 

5. Early Release & Teachers-led Workshop for All Staff – Wednesday, 7th December

On Wednesday the 7th of December we will be having an early release for students. From 14:30 all staff will be taking a series of workshops led by XLIS teachers in order to help us achieve our first schoolwide goal. The workshops will be as follows:

 

· Developing Academic Literacy – Tanapat Treyanurak

· Addressing Challenging Behaviours in the Classroom – Lea Grinter

· How to use IXL to plan, assess and differentiate instruction – Alexander Boel

· DP assessment – Kelvin Tian

· Interdisciplinary units – Randy Welch

· TOK for Subject Teachers – Eva Liu

· Scaffolding Instruction – Benjamin Wright

 

Primary School Events

 

1. Assemblies – Fridays

Each Friday one of our homeroom classes has the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning!  This is a student-led event that is supported by the teachers.  The parents of the class that is presenting will be invited to join the audience (as long as the epidemic prevention situation allows).

2. Primary Parent Workshop 

· Tuesday, 6th December – ECEA

· Thursday, 8th December – ECEB

· Thursday, 15th December – PYP1

· Tuesday, 20th December – PYP2

 

This year we are taking a different approach to the Parent Workshops that were offered in previous years. Now we would like to offer a more focused workshop for each grade level, to really address areas the parents have the most interest in. We will gather ideas from parents at each level and design the workshop based on parent suggestions. We hope you can all join in this new community-building initiative! Our PR department will send more information including the topic for your year level and how to register closer to the event. 

 

 

Secondary School Events

 

1.DP Course Selection Night – Friday, 9th DecemberOn the 9th of December from 4:00-5:30 the DP Coordinator and the DP teachers will host an information evening on the subjects that are offered at XLIS to the MYP5 students. All MYP5 students and parents should attend this important session and they will then be able to make insightful choices for their subjects in DP. More details will be sent at a later date.

 

2. Secondary Parent Workshop 

December 7th: 9:00-10:30

Assessments in the MYP for parents from MYP1&2

The purpose of this workshop is to familiarize parents with the assessments in the MYP. The Coordinator Ms. Emma will run an interactive workshop during which parents will learn about the nature of assessments.

 

December 9th: 4:00-5:30

DP Course selection night for MYP5

This is an important event for students and parents of the MYP5. It is the time of the year when students start thinking about their future paths and this session led by the DP Coordinator, Shameek Ghosh and facilitated by the DP teachers, will enable them to understand the requirements of DP and make informed choices.

 

December 14th: 9:00-10:30

DP1 Extended Essay workshop

The DP Coordinator will lead an interactive workshop for parents of the DP1 students where he will explain the nature and the requirements of the EE.

 

December 21st: 9:00-10:30

MYP3 & 4: Time management skills

The Coordinators will discuss the importance of time Management in the High School.
