With the sun blazing down in August, Xi’an Liangjiatan International School is about to enter a brand new school year. To ensure a steady and orderly start to the school year, and to ensure the safety of the students in campus, the preparations have already begun in full swing two weeks before the first school day at XLIS.
Senior Leadership Team & Senior Management Team
Retreat and Potluck (August 4th)
Our senior leadership team and senior management team returned to the school in advance to make early arrangements for the new school year’s teaching and management, from overall situation such as school’s future direction of development to the details of the school daily operation like development plans for different departments and campus safety inspection, getting fully prepared for the return of students.
Chinese Staff Meeting (August 6th)
During the summer holiday, many of our teachers attended the ACAMIS Chinese Conference in Chongqing and the International Chinese Language Festival in Hong Kong, as well as the IB Workshop and IB Teaching and Learning Research events. Meanwhile, teacher and student delegation from XLIS had a three-week visit to prestigious universities in the United States and some of the best international schools in Southeast Asia, bringing back first-hand exchange and research information and sharing in the meeting. Subsequently, six staff representatives who have been working in teaching and administrative positions also took the stage to speak, elaborating their goals and directions they are headed to in the new school year.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Liu made a concluding speech. With Silk Road Science City at Xi’an Hi-Tech Zone becoming core supporting zone of comprehensive national science center and scientific and technological innovation center of national influence in accord with the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee deploying 2023 to be a year of promoting high-quality projects,breaking through the business environment, and improving the work style of cadres, Dr. Liu put forward higher requirements for international education to all Chinese staff, which contained: be firm in our goals and direction of schooling, strengthen institutional reform and innovation, enhance the introduction and retention of overseas talents, maintain campus security and stability, etc..
In addition, Dr. Liu pointed out that the mission of running world-class international education in China requires strong responsibility and determination. As an international educator, we must always be firm in our ideal and conviction, and make unremitting efforts. On the basis of the good development of XHIS and XLIS in the past 20 years, we will definitely achieve more in 2023-2023 school year.
New Staff Orientation & All Staff Orientation
(August 7th – August 11th )
Before the start of a new school year, we organized a staff orientation, aiming to help new staff familiarize themselves with XLIS in advance and get to know the functions of different departments as well as school related rules and regulations. We were committed to enhance mutual trust and team cohesiveness through communication among all the staff, thus implementing the teaching work efficiently in the future.
New Students Orientation Day (August 8th)
On the new students orientation day, teachers from each year level introduced the academic requirements and communication ways, School Restorative Practices Policy and self safety protection at XLIS to newly joined international families in details.
Also, the teachers patiently answered a series of questions about the school and teaching from new students and parents, helping them better adapt to new campus environment as soon as possible and integrate into a new learning journey.
Community Day & First Parent Meeting (August 11th)
The first parent meeting of 2023-2024 academic year was led by our Senior Leadership Team, Senior Management Team and Academic Leadership Team. Mr. Brian Lalor, our Deputy Head of School, explained XLIS Wide Action Plan firstly, followed by a wonderful Panel Discussion led by Senior Team and PTA core members that focused on the topic of “What does the IB Learner Profile mean to parents? ”At last, Dr. Liu gave a profound explanation of our school vision that is to lead education through innovation and a student-centered, community-driven approach and shared the importance of Community Culture from four aspects.
At a new starting point, we will remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, moving forward towards the goal of building an international school that tells good Chinese stories and spreads Chinese culture.
