Whole School Events
1. End of Semester 1 – Friday, 12th January
According to the school calendar, the last school day of the first semester will be on January 12th, 2024 (Friday). End of semester reports will be released to parents on Managebac by then.
2. Start of Semester 2 – Monday, 15th January
According to the school calendar, the second semester is scheduled to begin on January 15th, 2024 (Monday). Please check the school emails regularly for any relevant notice.
3. PTA Core Members Meeting – Tuesday, 16th January
The first monthly PTA core meeting of the second semester will be held on Tuesday, January 16th, and we will notify all PTA members by email later on.
4. Chang’an Cup U19 Basketball Invitational
Thursday, 18th January – Saturday, 20th January
The Chang’an Cup U19 Basketball Tournament returns this January with three days of action at XLIS. Eighteen teams from twelve schools will compete for the championship in boys’ and girls’ divisions. The tournament will include teams representing international schools and departments from Xi’an, Hefei, and Dalian.
Primary School Events
1. Assemblies – Fridays
Each Friday one of our homeroom classes has the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning! This is a student-led event that is supported by the teachers. The parents of the class that is presenting will be invited to join the audience.

3. Parent / Teacher Conference – Wednesday, 17th January
On Wednesday, January 17th, parents are invited to the school for a meeting with their children’s teachers. This is a time to discuss the students report cards, academic progress and social-emotional well-being. There will not be classes that day and children are encouraged to stay home as there will not be any supervision of students around the school with all teachers / TA’s involved in the conferences. You will receive a schedule from the teacher, and you may also email the single subject teachers (art, music, mandarin, PSPE) to set up a meeting as well.
4. Chinese New Year Celebration – Wednesday, 31st January
The celebration of the 2024 Chinese Lunar New Year in primary schools will be divided into two parts. On the morning of January 31st, ECEA-P1 will hold a “Dragon Baby Welcoming Spring” park activities in the Early Years corridor, featuring various traditional handicraft experiences and fun activities such as playing games, guessing lantern riddles, and tasting snacks. On the afternoon of January 31st, P2-P6, the “Dragon in the World, Chinese is the Most Beautiful” Literary and artistic activities will be held at the Blue Dragon Theater. Famous children’s literature writers will be invited to give speeches, and there will also be a variety of Chinese learning achievements performances, as well as fun activities such as guessing lantern riddles and tasting snacks.
Secondary School Events
1. Parent Workshop (for MYP1-MYP3 Parents) – Thursday, 11th January
Assessment & Reporting: In this session for the M1-M3 parents, our MYP Coordinator will explain the assessments and the way we report in Secondary Department. She will also explain the structure of the report card and how the grades are calculated. Since it is the report time, this is a good opportunity for all parents to share their concerns and ask questions if not clear.
2. Parent / Teacher Conference – Wednesday, 17th January
The 2nd parent / teacher conference is an occasion for you to meet your children’s teachers and to have feedback about the performance of the student. In Secondary, we require the student to accompany the parents so that we can have a discussion and set goals for improvement.
3. Chinese New Year Celebration – Wednesday, 31st January
The 2023-2024 Chinese New Year Celebration in the Secondary School is divided into two captivating segments. In the morning, we will witness the 6th Chinese Speech Contest with the theme “Orientation of time and space” . This contest aims to inspire critical thinking, encouraging students to express personal viewpoints, analyze themes, and present persuasive arguments. It not only enhances students’ public speaking skills but also immerses them in the unique beauty of the Chinese language. In the afternoon, the campus cultural festival, through diverse cultural experiences, deepens the international students’ cross-cultural understanding and community awareness. We look forward to collectively experiencing the vibrant and culturally rich celebration, embracing the unique charm of Chinese culture.
