Dear Parents,
Warm greetings from Xi’an Liangjiatan International School. It was nice to meet you last week on campus.
As we continue to grow as a learning community, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for being active participants in your child’s educational journey. At XLIS, we believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to helping every student thrive.
To support this partnership, our school organizes a series of essential parent meetings and community events throughout the year. These gatherings are designed not only to keep you well-informed, but also to ensure your child receives consistent support across both home and school.
1. Parent-Related Meetings – Required Participation
Starting the 2025-2026 academic year, attendance for key meetings will be recorded. Parents who do not attend may be contacted for a follow-up conversation with school leadership. We seek your full cooperation in making these events a priority.
Each meeting has a clear and important purpose:
- Semester 1 – August 14th, 2025: Community Day (All Parents)
A welcoming start before school officially begins. Parents are invited to engage with the school community, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
- Semester 1 – August 29th, 2025: Meet the Teacher Night (All Parents)
Designed for parents to get to know homeroom and subject teachers, understand semester plans, and receive an overview of the curriculum. This helps build early communication and shared expectations.
- Semester 1 – October 22nd, 2025: Parent-Teacher Conference (All Parents)
This meeting provides an update on your child’s academic performance and social-emotional development since the start of the school year.
- Semester 2 – January 28th, 2026: Parent-Teacher Conference (All Parents)
This meeting focuses on your child’s academic progress and social behavior during the first semester, and includes report cards with grades and teacher comments.
- Semester 2 – January: DP Subject Selection Session (M5 Parents)
M5 students and their parents must attend. This session guides students as they prepare to enter the Diploma Programme and make important academic decisions.
- Semester 2 – May 11th, 2026: Student-Led Conference (All Parents)
In May, students take the lead in reflecting on and presenting their learning journey to their parents during the Student-Led Conferences. This approach fully aligns with XLIS’s
student-centered vision, empowering learners to take responsibility for their own progress. This format is based on the Feynman Technique, which emphasizes learning by
teaching others. By clearly explaining concepts in their own words, students are able to identify gaps in their understanding and deepen their mastery. While different from
traditional teacher-led conferences, this model builds confidence, strengthens communication, and encourages ownership of learning.
- Semester 2 – June 1st-2nd, 2026: P6 to MYP Transition Meeting (P6 Parents)
This is a crucial step in helping students and families prepare for the shift from Primary to Middle Years. All P6 parents are required to attend.
2. School-Wide Annual Events – Building a Connected Community
Beyond academic meetings, I encourage your full participation in our community celebrations, such as International Day of Peace, Christmas Concert, Chinese New Year Celebration, Sports Day, Summer Fair, Parents’ Workshops, Students’ Exhibitions, Graduations, etc.
These events highlight the joy of learning and the strength of our diverse international family. They are not just performances or exhibitions—they are opportunities to build community, celebrate our cultures, and support one another.
I thank you once again for your ongoing partnership. Your involvement not only enhances your child’s experience at XLIS but also helps us create a school culture grounded in respect, collaboration, and global-mindedness.
Together, let’s continue to support our learners as they strive for excellence.
Best regards
Lily Liu
