Dear Parents ,
Good morning!
I hope that this email finds you well and that you are excitedly looking ahead to the end of the school year, as our students also are. Thank you to all of the parents who emailed me to let me know about your children’s friendships and experiences at XLIS. I am so happy to hear about their growth, development, and well-being! Teachers have begun the careful work of creating the draft lists for the next academic year. We will not be able to share any of this information with our parents or student community until August, as the class lists are not finalized until the end of the summer holiday, when enrollment processes are complete. We appreciate your understanding.
Assessment Analysis
By now, you should have received feedback on the recent assessments your child participated in. In the Early Years, students “writing” and numeracy development were documented. In P1, in addition to writing and numeracy, students completed a Core Phonics assessment. And for P2 – P6, all students completed the MAP assessment. I encourage you to review the feedback from the teacher with your child and to set some goals for the summer holiday. We notice that often, when we come back to school in the new year and take MAP again in September, many student’s will see a slight drop in their achievement. I encourage you to make a plan with your child (for example, to set a goal for a number of English books to read) and to promote reading and writing through the summer months.
For teaching staff, they are also looking closely at the assessment data and identifying areas of strength and for growth within and across year levels. This assessment analysis helps us to support our students in achieving more.
Graduation Season
It was lovely to experience the DP graduation last Friday. Our primary students lined the hallways in the morning with banners and pom-poms to celebrate our DP Graduates as they made their way through the school to their ceremony in the Blue Dragon Theatre. It was a lovely community event.
Next week, on Friday, June 12th, we will host our own graduation ceremonies! Our ECEB students will celebrate moving up to P1, a transition that sees them enter a more structured learning environment and have lunch and playtimes with the lower primary students. In addition, our P6 students will also have their graduation ceremony as they complete their PYP journey and look ahead to joining the middle school next year. This will be a wonderful day of celebration at XLIS.
End of ECA program
On Thursday, June 11th, our ECA program will end for this semester. I hope that your child has been able to enjoy one of the many options for learning something of interest to them this semester. Please note that for the last week of school, June 15 – 19, dismissal will be at 3:25 each day of the week.
Wizard of Oz Theatre Production
For the first time, XLIS is proud to announce that our MYP Theatre Program will be performing The Wizard of Oz for the community! The show will take place on Saturday, June 13th. Please watch for an email from our PR that will give details on how to register to watch!
That concludes my letter for this week. I will have one more letter to write to you in the last week of school. Please reach out if you have any questions about your child’s recent assessments or if you’d like to give me any feedback. I am always happy to hear from parents!
Sincerely,
Marly Song
