Dear Parents,
Well, here it is, my final letter to you in the 2024_2025 academic year. It is a little surreal that in just seven more school days we will all be starting our summer holidays. In today’s letter, I’d like to highlight your, (the parents’), important role in our XLIS community.
Leaving Community Members
First, I am pleased to announce that, again, we have very few staff members leaving us in the primary school this year, and for that, I am very thankful. Part of the reason we are able to retain staff is because of the “sense of community” that is a part of our mission statement. You, the parents, help our teachers feel supported and valued. As our student numbers continue to grow, we are adding new classes and extra staff. I am excited that we will increase the number of P4 classes from three to four and add two extra language support teachers next year.
One of the most challenging parts of being an international educator, is saying goodbye to the lovely children and their families whom we have grown to know and love. To those of you who are moving on from XLIS, I wish you all the best for the new chapter in your lives and your families. I hope that our students who are leaving are taking wonderful memories with them.
Parent Survey
I would like to thank all of the parents who took the time to complete the survey that was sent out. Through your participation, thoughtful consideration, and feedback, we are able to reflect on our service to you and your children and to set goals for future improvement. Of course, you may share your feedback with us at any time, but the survey collects the data into one form for us to look at. Our leadership team has already started to read and reflect on your suggestions. Thank you so much for sharing your voice with us.
Parent Workshops
Tomorrow, we will host our final Parent Workshop for this academic year. We hope that you have found the workshop series this year to be helpful and informative. We are setting the workshop schedule for next year already and are excited to bring you more valuable information about teaching and learning at XLIS and how to support your children at home!
*** Please note that there is no school for your children this Friday due to the IBAP Workshop event at XLIS from June 13 – 15th. School will resume on Monday as normal.
I would like to finish this letter, as I do each year, letting you know ~ Your children are all amazing! I am so excited for the ECEB and P6 graduations happening on Thursday, as they give us an opportunity to celebrate the students’ accomplishments together. But on a daily basis, it fills my heart to see all of our students smile, say hello and tell me they are happy when they first walk into the school in the morning. I truly love our XLIS community.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday.
We will welcome parents back on August 14th for our Community Day and welcome students back on August 18th for the first day of the new academic year!
Sincerely,
Marly Song
