Dear Parents,
It is unbelievable that we are already heading into our first holiday of the year! I was so happy to see so many of you at our International Day of World Peace event last Thursday and I hope that it sparked some good conversations between you and your children.
Upcoming events
As you know, our 4th schoolwide goal is to strengthen communication and collaboration with our parent community. Events such as Peace Day are just one way we create opportunities to work together with our families. In October, we have more events that will be happening:
October 11th – P3 and P4 Open Day
October 20th – P2 and P3 Parent Workshop
October 20th – First student Progress Reports go home
October 25th – Parent-Teacher Conferences
October 30th – November 3rd – Literacy and Culture Week
Toys and Food at school
Recently, some toys have become very popular with young children. The ones I am referring to are plastic and look like a retractable knife. They come in all kinds of fancy colours, some with lights and other options. They have become a distraction at school for many of our students. Please remind your children that we do not allow them to bring toys to school, please keep them at home.
In addition, we hope that our students can maintain healthy habits while at school. We understand if students would like to bring their own snacks or lunch to school, however, this should not be in the form of potato chips, chocolate or instant noodles. Please do not allow your son or daughter to bring this kind of food to school. Your cooperation on this matter is much appreciated.
Family Trips
This month, we have had several families apply for leave from school for family trips. We have noticed that children who miss school often miss out on important assessments, tasks, and regular classroom practice that enhances their learning. Taking a trip with your family is enjoyable and a great learning experience for children, but we would like to encourage you to plan these trips when our school has scheduled holidays to avoid disruption to your child’s learning at school.
We have a lovely 10 day holiday on the horizon. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and Golden Week to you and your family!
Please reach out at any time if you have questions or would like to connect,
Take care,
Marly Song
