Dear Parents ,
Hope this email finds you well. We are pleased to welcome you back to a new academic year 2025-2026. My name is Shameek Ghosh and I am looking forward to collaborating with you as the Secondary Principal for the second year and going into my fourth year at XLIS. I have been an IB educator for twenty one years now with close to ten years in China. Some of the things that I value as an educator are integrity and cultural responsiveness.
I would like to highlight some things in my letter today.
Reading programme in Middle school
One of the key ones is the introduction of the Middle School reading programme. The purpose of this reading programme aligns with our school goal “supporting students to develop their competencies in XLIS language of instruction.” It strengthens reading skills, critical thinking and fosters a love for reading.
Each month, children in the same grade will read the same book at home and compete the reading. There will be differentiated recommendations based on their language level.
The M1-M3 students will have monthly sharing sessions for their reading during homeroom period on the following dates: October 10th, November 7th, December 3rd, January 16th, April 15th, May 15th.
Our M1-M5 students will complete the reading logs and be checked weekly by homeroom teachers. M1-3 students need to paste the reading log in their Diaries. We thank you for supporting your child at home and signing on the reading log in a regular basis. Please let your child’s homeroom teacher know if you are facing difficulties.
DP2 students and predicted grades
This is an important start for our DP2 students too as they get ready for the DP examinations in May 2026. We would request your support in ensuring that your children do their work on time and actively seek feedback from teachers. DP2 will be having their next set of predicted grades being released on October 10th. All the assessments that happen count towards the predicted grades. We assure you of our support towards your child’s learning.
Meet the teacher night
Last but not the least, we have our ‘Meet the teacher night’ on August 29th from 4:30-5:30. We will meet in the 3rd floor auditorium at 4:30 for High School (M4-DP2) and in the Big Gym for the Middle school (M1-M3). This is a great opportunity for parents to come and meet the homeroom teachers and get to form a bond with them and focus on home-school partnership to support the students.
After the short welcome, the homeroom teachers will accompany you to the classes. For attending the event, please register through the APP, and can scan the QR code when you arrive at the school gate.
All the students would leave regularly at 3:30 in the school buses on the day.
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Regards,
Shameek
