Dear Parents,
I hope you are doing well and had a restful time after the Labor day holiday. We are almost a month and half away from the summer break. Time flies and seasons are changing and I hope you get time with your children and family. It also means that we are in the last phase of our academic journey at school that involves assessments, setting goals and aspiring to do the best. There are some important things coming up this month and until the end of the year.
IB examinations-Our IB examinations are in full swing. Please support the children at home by providing a good environment from your end and sending them to school on time, and we will do the best we can from the school’s end to ensure a comfortable environment to write the exams.
Uniforms and etiquette-It is required that students are in school uniform when they come to school and carry themselves well as they are ambassadors to the community within and beyond. This is not limited only to wearing uniform, but also includes ensuring proper hairdo and not using hair colour or nail extensions. Students are also not allowed to chew gum.
Student led conferences-It is my pleasure to invite you to join us for the student led conferences (SLC) for Secondary on May 11th, 2025. Students will lead the parents to their homerooms and will present their posters to their parents as per the timing is mentioned below. These are opportunities for students to showcase their learning journey and enhance their communication and reflective skills.
The SLC will be held in the homeroom classrooms with a gallery walk set up. Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher and let them know your availability. There is no school transport on this day and students need to come and go with parents. Please ensure that you communicate with your child’a homeroom teacher on this.
Schedule
8:30-10:30: M1-M3 parents and students.
10:40-12:40: M4: parents and students.
13:25-14:30: DP1 parents and students.
M5 and DP2 are excused from this event, as they are having examination and can study at home. However, if they have an exam on that day, they will write exams.
MAP tests-Our Spring MAP tests are due to happen between May 18-22. This would be our second data point after the Autumn test that was held in September, 2025. These tests are adaptive and measure what your child can currently do and what your child is capable of with the current data in mind. Once the tests are complete, homeroom teachers will be communicating the data to you. I would like to remind that we do not teach to the MAP test. However, the tests help us identify gaps in knowledge and allows us opportunities to think how we can support knowledge and skill development.
Work experience for M4 and M5– This is coming up quickly between May 24-28. Students would now have received their locations along with their contacts in the work place. Please encourage your children reminding them of the importance of engaging well.
Classes for the 2026-2027 year – Thanks to parents who have written in to me at this stage. We are working on the classes for the next academic year. At XLIS, we try to well balance genders and nationalities etc. You may send this to on or before May 22nd. After this date, the classes will be allocated and changes will not be possible. If you could let me know 2-3 students your child would like to be in a class with, I can try to ensure they will be with at least 1.
Please note, I will not be accepting any special requests for teachers. I am only asking for feedback on peer relationships. Thank you for your understanding.
Summer Fair- The XLIS Whole School Summer Fair will be on May 16th from 9:00-12:00 filled with fun and frolic. Parents are encouraged to support homeroom teachers in their planning and preparations for the event. This is an excellent way to build connections with your community. The XLIS cafeteria and outside vendors will cater the event. To avoid potential waste, we ask that classes do not provide cooked food for this event. There are plenty of students registered for the talent show and we are looking forward to seeing some great performances for the day.
I would like to wish everyone the very best, and if you are leaving the school at the end of the academic year, I would request you to reach out to us so that we can learn more from you how we can support your child’s transition.
Thanks and regards,
Have a great week ahead,
Shameek
