“No story lives unless someone wants to listen. The stories we love best do live in us forever. So whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”——JK Rowling
When I watched Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, I was thinking what made me enjoy reading and what made me feel the power of literacy, the answer is definitely Harry Potter. I wasn’t a child who enjoyed reading in the early years, however, I was inspired by the world that JK Rowling created the first time I got Harry Potter and Philosopher Stone, from a Muggle’s perspective, this is something incredible! Children in the 21st century are still passionate about Harry Potter, they talk about the Hogwarts, they discuss passionately who is the cutest character, they practice the spells with a pencil, they dress up like a wizard in the Literacy week…Isn’t it the love of reading?
Reading is one of the best ways to improve your English skills, in XLIS, we highly value the importance of reading through daily teaching and various activities. And this year, we also want to highlight reading by having the Reading Summer Camp, and the theme of the Summer Camp is ‘The magic of reading.’ Students will experience a week of immersive reading by doing a lot of fun activities with their teachers, learning some reading strategies and building vocabulary. The reading class is also differentiated by giving students different reading materials and instructions, because we always want to meet the individual needs and value our diversity. Except for the English reading class, we will offer Mandarin class, Visual Art class, Performing Art class and Swimming class. In the next camp introduction article, we will introduce the time schedule, class schedules and specific courses.
To better motivate each student and stimulate their interest of reading, we will create the summer camp more like the Hogwarts style. Students will be assigned into four houses based on their grade level- Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin before they join the summer camp. Students will meet their homeroom teacher and teaching assistant. For boarding students, they will also meet their dormitory manager.

Every human being is an artist,
a freedom being,
called to participate in transforming and reshaping the conditions,
thinking in structures that shape and inform our lives.
——Joseph Bueys, artist, teacher, philosopher, writer
In this weeklong summer arts camp, we will explore the Earth and what is around us through a variety of media, materials, techniques, and content.
- We will use our surroundings to create artwork, generate new ideas, and inspire one another.
- We will investigate the importance of art to better locate our identities and express ourselves in relationship to the world we are responsible for as human beings.
- We will work collaboratively and as individuals, with both day and weeklong artist projects.
- We will also survey the campus environment, go past its boundaries, and locate creative motivation for ourselves.
This immersive arts camp will focus on community, personal well-being, experimentation, confidence building, self-exploration, communication, and of course having FUN!
Our artistic endeavors will come to a grand finale with an end-of-the-week exhibition, celebrating who we are in the world. We hope that you will join us this summer for an experience you will never forget.

Welcome to the XLIS STEM Camp!
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education.
At XLIS STEM Camp, what we are offering is more than just a simple acronym. The XLIS STEM camp is designed to not only teach the students the knowledge and skills in STEM but also allow them to explore different concepts and enhance their education outside the traditional classroom. Students will use the hands-on experience to discover how different scientific principles work and are used in our everyday lives and develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills through problem-based and inquiry-based learning. They will get to deepen their understanding of STEM innovation and build their ATL(Approaches to Learning) skills while exploring the world of STEM. In the meantime, they will also develop their intentional mindedness to become a confident and open-minded global citizen as they get to meet and collaborate with students and teachers from local and worldwide.
