Our school teams won the awards in the 2023 “Future City®” Competition
On December 23-24, the Future City® national exhibition unfolded at the National Speed Skating Arena in Beijing, providing a grand stage for the innovative visions crafted by young minds. A total of 120 teams, comprising over 1,000 primary and secondary school students, converged on this vibrant arena from 29 cities across the country. With over 30 industry experts and renowned scholars, the event promised rich interactions and insights for our students.
Future City® stands as a beacon in STEAM education, a global initiative embraced by over 3,000 schools annually. At the heart of this initiative lies a project-based learning course that beckons students to envision and design a city a century into the future. The annual themes set by Future City® organization provide a canvas for the boundless creativity of these young minds. The 2023-2024 theme, “Electrify Your Future.” challenges participants to devise a futuristic urban landscape powered entirely by sustainable energy sources. This theme not only captures the essence of the global shift towards eco-friendly practices but also aligns seamlessly with the aspirations of 22 XLIS students who eagerly embraced this imaginative and hands-on extracurricular activity at the start of the 2023 academic year.
In the spirit of inclusivity and creativity, XLIS students from various year levels enthusiastically signed up for the captivating journey of the Future City ECA. The initiative welcomed participants ranging from PYP4 to MYP3, fostering collaboration across age groups. The names of participating teams are as follows:
Primary School Team: JOAM ZKLY City
Secondary School Team: Namushuree City
Mixed Team: JEVABCLZ City
Each XLIS team has undergone a semester of intense teamwork. The preparation for the Future City competition in Beijing was a rigorous yet rewarding journey, marked by the creation of four essential deliverables. A 1500-word essay, a project plan, a physical scale model of their cities, and preparation of the presentation and Q&A session in the Beijing competition.
The XLIS Future City teams not only brought their innovative visions to life but also earned notable awards and recognitions during the regional competition, showcasing their dedication and excellence.
