On September 21st, 2023,
XLIS and its broader community came together to celebrate the
U.N. International Day of Peace!
This year’s theme: “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals”, prompted students from all year levels to inquire into to the concept of “peace” and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. But the learning journey did not stop there…
Students and their teachers chose different countries as their cultural learning context, and further explored the unique aspects that make each country so special. One could say that it is through the understanding of our differences that we may come to realize that we are not so different after all.
After being led by a colorful parade representing a myriad of countries and their cultures, the audience was guided to the Blue Dragon Theatre and the Third Floor Auditorium to witness a variety of musical performances and speeches by our global students.
Students went on to showcase their cultural-mindedness by creating a great variety of visual art works that were carefully displayed on the lobby of the Blue Dragon Theatre. It is important to mention that some of our students began their inquiry into this special day during their summer holidays! Another highlight of the event is the opportunity to explore deeper the meaning of ‘’Peace” in the classrooms. The students engage in various learning experiences to explore real-life issues such as bullying and promoting taking action through connecting to sustainable development goals.
Finally, our parents and PTA members contributed to the festivities by serving a buffet of delicious finger foods which delighted all guests in attendance.
We thank every student and teacher at XLIS for being exemplary members of our constantly growing international community and look forward to an Academic Year full of meaningful learning experiences and community driven initiatives!
