June 2021 Updated Events
01 – Summer Holiday Duration
Please be aware that Friday June 18th is the last school day for the 2020-2021 academic year. The academic year of 2021-2022 starts on Monday August 16th, 2021, at regular times.
02 – End of ECAs
Tuesday June 8th, 2021 marked the last day of our Extra Curricular Activities (ECA). Thanks to all of you who supported us with this endeavor!
03 – Two Foreign Educators from XLIS Participated Dragon Boat Festival Celebration. The activities were held by the Xi’an Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology
On June 14th 2021, the Xi’an Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology (Xi’an’s Municipal Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs) observed the Dragon Boat Festival through carrying out a series of theme activities like “ Make preferential policy, Give needed service, Convey traditional Chinese culture” combining with the ongoing 2020 “Amazing China — the Most Attractive Chinese Cities for Foreigners” activity, which mainly targets at the special group of foreign talents in Xi’an.
In total of 44 foreign talents & international students in Xi’an, hailing from 25 countries were invited to join this celebration at the Xi’an Foreign Talents Bookstore. XLIS’s Performing Arts Director, Mr. Pyoung Gang Kim and Ms. Jenna Dolman were invited to participate and perform a song named “A Million Dreams” by “The Greatest Showman” . This activity represented a great traditional Chinese cultural experience, and the festivities delighted all in attendance.
04 – XLIS’ 2021 “SDGs” Summer Camp
XLIS’ 2021 SDGs Summer Camp is an action-packed and fun initiative for all ages. The camp officially started on the 21st of June and will last till the 16th of July 2021. Some of the activities we offer include but are not limited to, sports, outdoor exploration, swimming lessons, cultural experiences, academic sessions and free play. Through this exciting program, children will experience collaboration, student leadership, improve their English and Chinese language proficiency, and make long-lasting friendships while learning in a safe and stimulating environment.
Primary School Events
01 – Assemblies
Fridays
During the assemblies, students from different year-level actively displayed what they had been learning during their units of inquiry (UOI). They typically focused on a transdisciplinary theme and shared their knowledge pertaining to concepts, ATLs (Approaches to Learning), action, and made connections with the IB Learner Profile attributes.
02 – ECE Graduation
On June 4th, ECE team celebrated their learning by holding a graduation ceremony, and ECEB students were given their early years learning certificates. Congratulations!
03 – PYP Semester 2 Reports
Semester 2 Reports had been released on Managebac.
04 – PYP Exhibition and Graduation
On June 10th, Primary team congratulated the students of Primary 6 on their successful completion of the Primary Years Program.
Secondary School Events
01 – DP1 TOK Exhibition
Our DP1 students have been studying Theory of Knowledge for the past year, exploring areas of knowledge and ways of knowing and the knower’s perspective. A mandatory part of the DP TOK course is to create an exhibition to share their understanding of knowledge systems. MYP5 students and parents and DP1 parents were welcomed to this show to get a deeper understanding of TOK.
02 – Session: Transition to DP
Our MYP5 students are taking a big academic step, moving from the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to the rigorous two-year Diploma Programme (DP). MYP 5 parents and students were welcomed to attend the session to learn how to prepare for this journey this summer and what the differences are and how they would prepare for university.
03 – Kindness Day
XLIS students celebrated kindness day by wearing pink and performing random acts of kindness. This event was sponsored by the secondary student council. This was our 5th annual Kindness day at XLIS secondary. We encouraged everyone to wear pink and be kind.
04 – PYP-MYP transition session (PYP6 students and parents)
We invited PYP6 parents and students to meet our middle school lead teacher, secondary principal and our MYP 1 teachers. We had MYP1 students welcoming and presenting. This was a warm welcome to the middle school at XLIS. On the morning of June 16th, we also had a PYP-MYP transition session for the students. Our current MYP1 students were part of these welcoming events. Some of the students shared highlights of their MYP1 experience and their learning stories.
05 – META Projects
On June 15th, MYP1-4 students presented their META Projects to the secondary community. This is our 4th year of running META Projects at XLIS. META Projects represent one hour a week of self-directed PBL (Project Based Learning) where students explore their passions.
06 – XLIS Secondary Subject Awards and Learner Profile Awards
This was our fifth annual awards day in the XLIS Secondary. Students across MYP and DP won subject awards and educational growth awards and special awards for their achievements. In addition, we held our bi-annual Learner Profile Awards and recognized student who exemplified the school wide learning outcomes (SLO), the IB Learner Profile Attributes.
07 – Challenge Run
On Friday 18th June morning – the last day of school – we had our first ever XLIS Challenge Run. This was a whole secondary event which involved our talented students! The aim for the event was to improve health and wellbeing, have fun with friends and support school-connected charities.
