XLIS Message from the Head of Brand Development Team

Dear Members of the XLIS Community,

It is my distinguished honor to welcome you to the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Brand Development Team has been devoted to achieving the vision and mission of XLIS, by creating a student-centered, community-driven educational context, and by changing lives through education. Our Administration Office, Student & Parent Centre, External Communications and Cooperation Center, Human Resources Department, and Finance Department provide whole school services for over 700 teachers and students from 35 different countries and regions. Our student body of newly enrolled students has increased by almost 27% over the past year. Our experienced and qualified teachers and administration staff build upon the good work and solid foundations that XLIS (XHIS) has established in its 17-year history.

# Develop systems & policies adhering to XLIS’s core value

 

By adhering to the school’s core value of nurturing global citizens with an international vision and an understanding of Chinese culture, we have developed Chinese and foreign leadership structures to better serve our students, parents, school, and the whole community. We have weekly teaching and administrative meetings and regular meetings with Chinese commissionaires and senior staff. All significant school decisions are reached after discussions at the meetings of Chinese commissionaires and school senior staff members. The XLIS Staff Code of Ethics is formulated and updated every year to strengthen the management of staff attendance and teaching activities and to enhance teacher training and ethics.

We have collected and formulated a variety of whole-school policies and procedures, which are compiled into Parent Handbook, Primary and Secondary Handbooks, Staff Handbook, as well as Whole School Policies. The creation and strict implementation of school policies supports XLIS in its vision and mission and optimizes all school procedures that staff can clearly understand and identify with as part of the culture of our school, and improve the level of international education in Xi’an.

 

# Create a multicultural environment facilitating teaching in classrooms

 

XLIS actively plays an important role in the international education sector, supporting local and foreign families in education, and connecting students from different countries and backgrounds together. In the context of cultural globalization, we hope that XLIS, as a multi-cultural school, also promotes the infusion of Chinese culture and other cultures and grows to be an international school with Chinese characteristics. The Brand Development team has implemented the school’s mission and vision that is student-centered and education-focused in the design and decoration of the campus to meet the needs of students at all year levels. Every school corridor showcases a kind of national culture, and every wall tells a historical story. We believe that all these make XLIS a museum on campus that inspires the students to be global citizens and enhances their cross-culture understanding and communication.

 

# Promote international communication and cooperation by providing opportunities for dialogues between different cultures

 

XLIS gives full play to the advantages of its role as Shaanxi Exchange Camp for Youth and has successfully held two international education forums. Educators from all over the world discussed the goals, processes as well as methods of talent training and development. The Brand Development team promotes different exchange student projects, teacher exchange training programs, summer camps, and other school events and promotions. XLIS is currently the top International School in Shaanxi Province for the number of foreign students who are enrolled and participate in the study of the IB curriculum, and its accreditation of IB curriculums and the curriculum development also takes a leading position in Shaanxi. These activities deepen the communication and cooperation in the education field among students, staff, school management teams, and the government. XLIS is proud and honored to support and attract excellent students from developed and developing countries throughout the world to study at XLIS here in Xi’an.

 

# Provide care to the teachers to keep the staff’s retention rate high at XLIS

 

Xi’an, formerly known as Chang’an in ancient times, attracted talents from all over the world to create impressive cultural achievements in the Great Tang Dynasty. Driven by the innovation of national technology, Xi’an has published a variety of policies to attract world talents. XLIS plays a significant role in the local international education sector during the internationalization of Xi’an, and its staff is comprised of foreign and Chinese members. The school consider many factors when hiring teachers, such as our parents and student community, and including the needs and requirements of the city.

 

Teachers are welcomed personally by a member of XLIS as they arrive in Xi’an. After arrival, our teachers are given support in becoming familiar with the city and local customs, to help new teachers adjust to life in Xi’an.New staff are also provided with training regarding Chinese policies and regulations, XLIS history, the school’s organizational structure, and management, to strengthen cross-cultural cooperation between foreign and Chinese teachers, to develop strong communication, and to build firm relationships between these two groups. We welcome all teachers who love to work in and experience China and are committed to developing their careers in international education.
