Dear Secondary Families,
As we move towards the end of October, I would like to reflect on our recent Parent Teacher Conferences and share some important reminders for the coming weeks.
Continuing the Conversation After Parent Teacher Conferences
I hope last Wednesday’s Parent Teacher Conferences provided valuable opportunities to celebrate progress, discuss areas for growth and identify ways to support each student’s continued development. I also hope these conversations continued at home, helping students reflect on feedback, recognise their strengths and set meaningful goals.
Our partnership extends beyond these conferences. I encourage families to maintain regular contact with subject teachers via email about subject-specific learning and with Homeroom Teachers about their child’s overall progress and wellbeing.
Here are some questions to help keep conversations about learning going at home and at school.

The aim is to help students take increasing ownership of their learning through reflection, supportive conversations and clear next steps.
Parent Workshop: Understanding MYP ePortfolio
I warmly invite parents to join us for an upcoming workshop on MYP ePortfolio on Wednesday, November 4. Led by our MYP Coordinator, Mr Sunil Pusluri, the session will also feature special guests, Mr Hakim and Ms Haeyoung, who will share their insights with families.
The workshop will help parents better understand the MYP ePortfolio assessment process, including how students investigate, develop ideas, create or perform, and reflect on their work. It will also offer practical guidance on how families can support students with time management, organisation, reflection and meeting deadlines while encouraging them to take ownership of their learning.
We hope you will join us to learn more about this important aspect of the MYP and how we can work together to support our students. Further details about the session will be shared with families.
A Shared Commitment to Student Wellbeing
Ms Lily Liu’s recent message highlighted two important areas: responsible AI use and bullying. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home, helping teenagers understand how to use AI appropriately while maintaining academic integrity, and how to contribute to a respectful, inclusive community. Please remind your child of the importance of treating others with kindness, both online and in person, and encourage them to seek support if they experience or witness bullying.
Upcoming Dates and Reminders
Friday, October 30 – Dress-Up Day for Literacy Week
We look forward to seeing students’ creativity on Friday! Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Literary Character. Please ensure outfits are appropriate for school and allow students to participate comfortably in the day’s activities. Students should also bring their regular school uniform to change into for lessons such as Design, Science and Physical and Health Education (PHE), where specific clothing may be required for safety.
Wednesday, November 4 – Early Release
Students will be dismissed at 2:30 pm. Staff will participate in a professional development workshop led by Ms Eva on IB Learner Profile Attribute Integration, strengthening how these attributes are embedded in everyday teaching and learning.
Friday, November 6 – IB Asia Pacific Workshops
XLIS will host the IB Asia Pacific Workshops. There will be no school for students on this day.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Through open communication and shared expectations, we can help every student grow into a reflective, confident and increasingly independent learner.
Warm regards,
Ms. Gill Presland
