Dear parents,
We are now in the month of March, and this is going to be a very busy month for all the students and the teachers.
Week Without Walls: Preparations are underway for the Week Without Walls which will be from 22nd -26thApril for the Middle School. I am attaching the letter which contains important for information to parents. M. Hakim who is the organizer of this event will meet with parents of the Middle School students to address all queries.
In the past weeks, we have had many incidents regarding the misuse of devices by our students. All our students sign a proper use of technology contract when they join our school. I would request parents to read this document and share some ideas with the students. This will enable all of you, parents, to be conversant with the current policy.
There has been a request from parents for us to provide advice on how to control the use of technology at home. I have attached the document with some guidelines o this mail. These are just guidelines, and we expect students to develop an understanding of the consequences of the abuse of technology. you M1 students are not expected to use their laptops for homework- though they use their technology at school we prefer them to write their homework-I have checked with their teachers and it’s only a few who require them to do their homework online.
We have organized a series of workshops this month to discuss important elements of the curriculum with our parents. Today there was a workshop on Managing Stress which was facilitated by our DP Coordinator.
Science Fair: This exciting event will take place on 12th of March – next Wednesday. Students have been very busy preparing for this event-I hope to see many of you attend this fair.
DP 2 Visual Art Exhibition: This is an important event in the lives of our DP2 students. This exhibition will take place from the 18 till the 20th March. More details will be sent later.
I am attaching a few documents to this mail:

2. Guidelines to parents on the use of digital devices at home.
Guidelines for the use of technology.
Setting Parameters – Some suggestions:
- Know all your child’s passwords to their phone and other accountssuch as WeChat, emails etc.
- Inform your child that their phone will be checked periodically to review
Internet history and text messages.
- Consider a cell phone with no Internet for your middle school child.
- All cell phones in the kitchen (or living room)at night.
- No cell phone or Internet devices allowed in bedrooms past 9m.
Be an Example for your child and Be Consistent with rules and consequences.
Helpful Guidelines
- Teach children to be respectful and careful when texting.
- Teach children to make sure they know who the caller is before theyanswer a call on their cell phone.
- Teach children to ask permission before taking someone’s picture.
- Know that checking a cell phone and social media is addicting. (The chemical dopamine is released in our brains.) We need to help our children manage through this effect by being an example, setting parameters, and teaching our children self-discipline.
- Limit social media accounts.
- Get to know your child’s social media sites. Talk with your child and educate yourself about each site.
- Physical hanging out time should be encouraged between friends and not replaced by online connections. Verbal and face-to-face contacts are crucial to developing teen and peer social relationship skills.
I am attaching the “Student Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy” to this email, every student signs this contract at the beginning of the year. Can you please familiarize yourself with this document especially with their child at the beginning of each semester. In particular, “Avoid using their personal computers or equipment to record (audio/visual) others without their permission.”
