Secondary School Events
1. Parent Open Day
In October, we’ve invited MYP 1-4 parents stepping into classrooms to observe half day classes with students, and to experience the normal Secondary school life at XLIS.
2. Secondary Parent Workshop
Theme: Inquiry-based Learning (Mathematics, I&S, Sciences)
The workshop aimed to engage parents in understanding how inquiry is at the heart of teaching in the IB. There was an emphasis on knowing how creative and critical thinking can help form arguments, solve problems and connect with the bigger global contexts in which these problems are formed and solved.
3. XLIS Dragon Cave Dormitory Challenge III
On Sunday October 12th, the XLIS Dormitory received its third cohort of students (M2A and B) to experience two weeks of living in community, acquiring essential life skills including cooking, working in teams, and taking ownership of their free time through effective organization and scheduling! By implementing the Four Pillars of Learning (UNESCO), we guided our students toward learning to “know, to do, to be, and live together”, thus preparing them for independence and to become functioning members of our society.
4. Secondary Literacy and Culture Week
This year’s Literacy and Culture Week ignited a division-wide celebration of interdisciplinary learning, where creative expression and academic exploration converged. Various departments cast a spotlight on subject-specific literacy through engaging, hands-on activities. Students decoded complex chemical formulas in the science lab, analyzed pivotal primary sources in Individuals and Societies, and brought literary characters to life through illustration in art class. Mathematics challenged students with the precise geometry of architectural design, while the language acquisition department hosted its thrilling ‘Spelling Bee,’ where contestants mastered words with impressive skill. This dynamic approach powerfully demonstrated that literacy—whether visual, numerical, scientific, or linguistic—is the essential key to unlocking every discipline.
